farm in Chungcheongbuk-do Province.
Nearly 200 cows at the farm tested positive for the animal disease and were culled immediately...
and all milk produced there after the outbreak has been disposed of.
Kim Hyo-sun reports.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said Monday that 195 cows at a farm
in Chungcheongbuk-do Province, located southeast of Seoul,... tested positive for foot-and-mouth
disease.
Following the outbreak of the highly contagious disease,... the government issued a ban on
the movement of lifestock at all dairy farms nationwide to prevent the further spread of
the virus.
While the government admitted there's a high probability that milk produced at this farm
has already been distributed to the market,... it said consumers need not worry because the
animal disease does not affect humans.
It added that the sterilization process also makes the milk safe to consume.
The quarantine authorities immediately culled all the infected cows.
The government said animals at nearby farms will be vaccinated as well,... because it
fears that vaccinations have not been properly carried out in some places, despite the fact
that they were made mandatory in the aftermath of the nation's worst outbreak of foot-and-mouth
in 2010 that led to the slaughtering of more than 3.4 million cows and pigs.
