In an exclusive interview with Reuters, he said that bolstering missile defenses for
Seoul and Tokyo are among the options on the table to counter the threat... while pointing
out China must step up to the plate.
Park Jong-hong shares with us the message from Washington.
The message was strong and his most resounding yet.
U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday he was "very angry" at North Korea's latest
launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile.
He said beefing up missile defenses for Washington's Asian allies South Korea and Japan is among
many options available.
But he added that there are talks of "a lot more than that".
In the interview with Reuters, President Trump also said China could solve the North Korea
problem "very easily" if it wants to.
"Well I think China has tremendous control over North Korea whether they say so or not
is up to them, but they have tremendous control over North Korea.
I think they could solve the problem very easily, if they want to."
This is seen as stepping up the pressure on Beijing to take a hands-on approach in curbing
North Korea's provocations.
President Trump did not completely rule out the possibility of meeting North Korean leader
Kim Jong-un at some point in the future but implied it might be too late.
He said the North Korean issue should have been taken care of during the Obama administration.
In addition, Trump said that he wants to ensure the U.S. nuclear arsenal is at the "top of
the pack," saying the United States has fallen behind in its atomic weapons capacity.
