Saint Paul School in Salem who
died this past Saturday from the
flu.

talked with a doctor here in the
Valley about your
best defense against the
illness.. She joins us live in

Just this month - nearly 300
people here in the Valley have
been in the
hospital with the flu. The CDC
says flu activity is on the rise
nationwide.. Doctors say it's
expected to continue

Therese is a doctor a Akron
Children's hospital in Boardman
and says they've been
seeing a lot of patients in
their offices and emergency room
with the flu.
Several schools in the area have
been reporting an increase in
absences.

ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY
ATTENDANCE WISE, BUT WE DID
NOTICE A SMALL INCREASE IN 7-12.
He says they've also had several
teachers out sick.
WE WANT KIDS TO ATTEND,
OBVIOUSLY, BUT WE WANT THEM TO
BE HEALTHY. He says if you're
sick - stay home. School
work can be made up.
THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT FLU IS
BY HAND WASHING. THERE'S NO
DOUBT
ABOUT THAT. SO MAKING SURE YOU
PRACTICE GOOD HAND WASHING
AND THAT YOU TEACH THAT SKILL TO
YOUR KIDS THAT SHOULD HELP
REDUCE THEIR CHANCE OF GETTING
INFLUENZA.
She says it's important to keep
your kids home when they're
sick to prevent
the flu spreading to other
families.

Flu season isn't expected to
peak for another couple of
weeks..
Doctor Linnon says it's not too
late to get your flu shot, but
it does take up to 2
weeks to fully kick in. She
says that's one of the best
defenses
