There is a drink on your table but you are too tired to stretch out your arm to grab the drink,
that won’t be a problem with a mechanical arm.
Actually this situation was rather meant to be a joke.
Let me show you two ways of making a DIY mechanical arm.
First of all you need to draw a 30 cm long and 8 cm wide rectangle.
It’s okay if you change the size of your rectangle.
We need to draw four more 14 cm long and 3 cm wide finger rectangles.
After that make sure to carefully cut out all your elements.
As you might have guessed it’s gonna be a template for the mechanical arm.
For the sake of getting a more firm structure we need to join two separate pieces together.
Let us glue the fingers to the arm with the help of a glue gun and let us shorten the thumb a bit.
Now let us draw lines where the mechanical fingers are supposed to fold. Let us fold the cardboard along the lines.
I’ve cut a straw into small pieces in order to slide wires through them.
Let us cut the straw into small pieces and stick them to the arm with a glue gun.
Now let us carefully slide threads through the straw pieces and stick the knots with a glue gun.
By the way do not forget to make a few loops for your fingers. Now let us glue the first attachment into place
above the fingers.
Its size will depend on the size of your hand. Here is such a fastener at the base of the mechanical arm.
Here is such a string mechanism.
Now let me show you the other way of making a DIY mechanical arm.
We need wooden strips, skewers and two plastic bottle caps.
By the way I am using such mug rug wooden strips.
You can use ice-cream sticks. We need six wooden strips of the same length and to smaller ones.
We need to drill three holes through each wooden strip. One hole in the middle and by one hole on the edges.
I am going to use a rotary tool but you can use a knife instead. Use whatever you like.
By the ways the legs of our remote control will be made from two big plastic bottle caps.
I am going to glue the skewers with a hot melt adhesive that is why the holes will be bigger.
In case if your holes happen to be smaller than they should be,
do not worry because you can use toothpicks instead of skewers.
Today’s video is over. Thank you very much watching the video.
Run your own experiments, entertain yourself and make cool DIY projects.
It was very funny to make these mechanical arms that is why now there is one more way to entertain myself.
Did you know that the is a special company in London “Shadow Robot”
that manufactures mechanical arms that are designed to precisely mimic the movements of human arms?
That’s all for today. Bye, bye!
