Donald Trump Dresses Up His Act: The Daily Show

- Can I tell you, yesterday's speech
and today's reaction is probably one
of the scariest things I have ever seen.
- [Woman] That's right!
- Not because of what Donald Trump said,
but because of how the people reacted
to what Donald Trump said.
The guy doesn't have to change anything.
It's so crazy to see how many people
are willing to accept heinous acts
if you just dress it up in a nice formal way.
That's all you have to do.
That's all you have to do.
I promise you now, Trump could have
the same policies on Muslims, Trump could have
the same policies on immigrants.
Trump could have the same policies,
do the same things, but if he just said
it in a very nice way and talked
about goodness and friendship,
then people are like, I think he's presidential.
I think he's presidential.
And the thing is, I understand
for a lot of people, it's complicated.
You like, getting into policy is difficult,
but that's the job of the news.
You know what I mean, they're supposed
to be the ones going, yeah, he sounded nice,
but this is the problem.

You realize yesterday, there was no policy.
There was no policy yesterday.
Donald Trump gave no policy.
Donald Trump literally said,
"Things are gonna be better,
"we're gonna make health care better,
"we're gonna stop ISIS, we're gonna end drugs."
No one even, I was like, what do you mean end drugs?
What does that mean?
Only someone on drugs would say we're gonna end drugs.
Yeah no one sober would be like,
yeah, you can end drugs.
What does that even, there's no policy.
There's literally no policy at all.
In fact, the closest thing to policy
that came out was when Donald Trump said,
"We're gonna set up a special force for immigration crime."
Crimes committed on Americans by immigrants,
we have a special division called VOICE,
which is Violence On Immigrants Committed something.
They were just trying to spell voice.
I don't know what was going on there.
(laughing audience)
But it's a whole thing where, you're like, what is that?
And they're like, we're gonna focus on these crimes,
and it's like, who wasn't focusing on the crimes?
You're targeting people specifically.
I honestly, I've never seen anything like it.
I go like, that performance, plus gerrymandering.
Republicans can rule forever.
They can rule forever.
