I’m Oli Davis, and I’ll be replying to as many comments as I can in the first 15
minutes of these episodes going live.
Breaking news: AJ Styles is a genius.
In last night’s Smackdown Live main event, AJ took on Randy Orton to decide the number
one contender for Bray Wyatt’s WWE Championship at THE ULTIMATE THRILL RIDE Wrestlemania 33.
Practically everyone was waiting for AJ’s Phenomenal Forearm to be countered into Orton’s
RKO.
Everyone including, AJ himself.
So he faked out at the last second, causing Randy to spring a trap for thin air.
Where John Cena usually hits his finisher five times in the opening sequence, it’s
incredibly satisfying to see wrestlers thinking more long term.
This sets up the Phenomenal RKO spot for a bigger match between the two down the line.
Orton, however, still managed to win, taking AJ out of Wrestlemania’s main event.
WWE have since tweeted a video of Styles flipping out at the Commissioner backstage after Smackdown
went off the air, which had some wonderful touches of realism like producer Road Dogg
Jesse James getting involved, and Michael Hayes’ ridiculous purple suit, looking like
that McDonald's character that nobody’s quite sure what it is.
This is obviously the build for AJ’s long-reported Wrestlemania match against Shane McMahon.
According to JBL on Twitter, WWE producer D-Von Dudley couldn’t help out in the scuffle
because he was too busy “ruining Smackdown”.
He presumably meant ‘running’.
JBL, autocorrect is not your friend.
Like the time you tried to Google ‘USA Sevens Rugby results’, and it came out as ‘Katka
Kyptova Nude’.
Smackdown’s ULTIMATE THRILL RIDE WRESTLEMANIA 33 building continued with both Apollo Crews
and Mojo Rawley entering the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, and Daniel Bryan announcing
that Alexa Bliss will defend her Women’s Title against “every available” female
wrestler on the roster.
Cage Side Seats’ rumour section are reporting this is vague on purpose, as WWE want to leave
the door open for the currently injured Naomi in case she can make it back on time.
After last week’s promo where Cena said he wanted to face The Undertaker at THE ULTIMATE
THRILL RIDE WRESTLEMANIA 33 rather than The Miz in an intergender match, the Awesome One
cut this in-ring promo: “I said John Cena is a liar last week, and his relationship
is the biggest lie of them all...when you have true love, you don’t make her sign
a contract to be your girlfriend.”
Going by Total Divas, that’s the 75 page agreement Cena made Nikki sign before they
moved in together.
According to CageSideSeats, the lines about Cena and Nikki’s relationship being “for
the cameras” and for marketing reasons is actually based on real gossip backstage in
WWE.
The shooting continued later on in the excellent Talking Smack, where The Miz accused Cena
of stealing material from other people, that he stole the Death Valley Driver from Tommy
Dreamer and called it the Attitude Adjustment, that he stole his recent t-shirt design from
a beer company, and that “he stole his girlfriend from Dolph Ziggler”.
Ziggler and Nikki Bella used to be in a longterm relationship prior to them getting together.
During all this, The Miz also went off on Smackdown General Manager Daniel Bryan, making
fun of his retirement saying, “You wanna be a wrestler?
But you can’t, because of your head.
It’s OK.”
Bryan responded, very matter-of-factly, “I can’t, or they won’t let me?
We’ll see in a year and a half and see what happens.”
This is presumably in reference to WWE not medically clearing Bryan to wrestle again,
despite many doctors agreeing that he can.
The year and a half time period must be when his WWE contract is up.
And to strengthen the speculation even further, as Talking Smack’s outro music was playing,
Renee Young candidly asked, “What’s the deal?”
To which Bryan responded “I wish I could say more.”
Which means there could be an update to how many f**** Daniel Bryan gives.
What’ve you got for us there on the counter.
It’s been a while since we last checked in-ah, who am I kidding.
It’s zero.
It’s most definitely zero.
Did you pick up on Triple H’s subtle CM Punk shoot on this week’s episode of Raw?
Find out all about it in my review, and don’t rule out Matt and Jeff Hardy returning to
WWE just yet, as talks may still be underway.
