At least the kid still has his Doritos. Priorities people, priorities.
It was windy in Austin Thursday, to say the least, for day 2 of the WGC-Dell Technologies
Match Play.
Gusts in excess of 25 mph, making for an interesting day -- especially on the water.
With the wind howling, there were a combined 37 balls in the water on holes 12 & 13
around the lake – and Phil Mickelson & Daniel Berger combined for 4 of them…
First went Berger
Annc: The greens are hard as a rock.
Then Phil followed.
And it didn’t go up from there.
Berger went on to dunk it in the drink on 13 & 14 too!
Annc: This is just a battle to survive.
Lefty took the match 5 & 4.
Sergio nearly blew over before sinking his birdie putt on 12.
Annc: Ohh wow what a putt by Garcia!
McGirt had less luck and couldn’t seem to get his ball to stop blowing after trying
to mark it on the green.
The struggle was real.
Annc: He has to play it from there now.
Just ask this kid.
That is the definition of golf is hard.
So what some of these guys were able to pull off in the Texas wind storm, was pretty incredible.
Remember all those balls in the water on 12?
Well Martin Kaymer defied the wind on his approach.
Annc: Well that's gonna do it just beautifully.
Annc: One of the best, probably the best that we've seen.
It wasn’t enough for the German though, as Dustin Johnson’s domination just keeps
rolling.
He took the match 3 & 2.
Annc: I'm going to describe him as the steam roller. He's just going to crush you.
I’m going to jog your memory again here.
Remember Rory’s 410-yard drive yesterday?
Well Ross Fisher raised him, bombing his drive on 12, 423 yards.
Annc: Look at that!
The Englishman put together a stellar round and defeated the top ranked player in his
pool, Hideki Matsuyama 2 & 1.
Everyone was saying hook ‘em horns, but none louder in Austin Thursday than UT products
Jordan Spieth.
Spieth: Ohh boy that caught a gust. Sit!
Annc: That's a good call. He hated it!
And Jhonny Vegas, who produced the first upset of the day 3 & 1 over Thomas Pieters.
Annc: Lot of spin on that one though.
This next shot you won’t want to miss.
We take you even further south for the Puerto Rico Open, also taking place on the PGA Tour
this week.
D.A. Points from 146 yards out ladies & gentleman.
Annc: Perfect! In the hole for a deuce.
That’s one way to end your day. Leader Trey Mullinax ended his with the course record.
His 63 a week after his wedding is how you start your honeymoon off on the right foot.
Day 2 of the Puerto Rico Open continues Friday, as day three of the WGC-Dell Technologies
Match Play has been moved up.
Those winds are blowing in stormy weather and they will try to tee off now at 7:30 am
CT.
They will be doing so without two more players.
After Jason Day’s WD Wednesday, Thursday Gary Woodland withdrew due to a family matter
& Francesco Molinari with a wrist injury.
Because of those WD's we already have two groups clinched after day two.
Rory McIlroy has been eliminated and Soren Kjeldsen will be moving on from his group along with
Alex Noren from group 8.
You can catch the action on PGA Tour Live starting at 8:30 am ET & I’ll see you Friday
night in the takeaway.
