in our past videos so today we thought we’d talk about some weapons!
Now some of these are broken, some aren’t good enough to see play, and others are somewhere
in between, but they’re all super sweet designs and it’s always fun to think about
how they would affect standard, so let’s jump in and take a look at some of them!
Bottle by Ptdemonspanker https://www.reddit.com/r/customhearthstone/comments/5j1t46/grievous_bottley_harm_rogue_weapon/ First up it’s Bottle, and while the name
is a little lackluster the card is super sweet.
Doubling it’s attack whenever it loses durability is super flavorful, since shattering a bottle
makes it sharper, and the ability is super sweet as well.
With things like deadly poison, captain greenskin, and other cards that increase a weapon’s
attack or durability, Bottle could quickly be a weapon capable of one shotting someone,
and would definitely be a really strong card in a dedicated deck.
This card would definitely be really strong in both wild and standard if the support for
it existed, and the design would definitely be something that would be cool to see Blizzard
experiment with, maybe at a higher mana cost to make it somewhat more balanced.
Rooted Wildhammer by willremember41 https://www.reddit.com/r/customhearthstone/comments/5nsudd/a_diferent_kind_of_weapon_for_warriors/ Up next it’s Rooted Wildhammer, a pretty
sweet warrior weapon that explores some interesting design space.
As a five mana seven/three weapon, Rooted Wildhammer is obviously really undercosted,
but it comes with a pretty big drawback: you have to pay four mana to attack.
Now having mana costs on cards to use them/ activate their abilities is a pretty cool
concept, although one we’d probably see on a minion before a weapon.
Still this card is probably reasonable in a control warrior deck, although it would
likely be used more for burst than removal, since gorehowl beats this card out pretty
heavily for efficiency as a removal spell.
Gorehowl also suffers a lot less against Harrison, although Rooted Wildhammer has a lower initial
mana cost so it’s better against acidic swamp ooze in that regard.
It’s pretty hard to say how much play this would really see, and maybe tweaking the stats
or the mana you have to pay each time would make it too good, but overall the design is
really sweet and definitely something that would be cool to see in the future.
Golden Spear by Bottasio https://www.reddit.com/r/customhearthstone/comments/5gzvsb/anti_weaponremoval_weapon/
Next up it’s Golden Spear, a hunter weapon designed to be good against weapon removal.
Now the concept is pretty cool, but since a two/three weapon is pretty low impact, your
opponent might not care too much that they can’t ooze this.
Still one thing you can do with this card, since the ability is a deathrattle, is just
pay five mana to equip this and then eaglehorn bow.
Since Golden Spear “dies” with three durability, you essentially get to draw three cards for
only two mana.
Now this could be a broken ability, although you can argue that it’s somewhat balanced
since it requires having this and another weapon in your hand, but ultimately this card
would likely be played in hunter decks as a form of card draw, or just a solid two/three
weapon against aggro or for burst.
The concept is definitely really cool, but overall this ability probably makes more sense
to put on a higher mana cost and higher impact weapon, since it would discourage using it
for card draw and actually act as an anti-weapon removal weapon.
Heartseeker by omegazion https://www.reddit.com/r/customhearthstone/comments/58h36c/heartseeker_8_mana_rogue_weapon/
Next we have Heartseeker, a pretty crazy eight mana rogue weapon.
Having a weapon that destroys a minion is super cool, and the fact that it gets attack
equal to the minion’s attack is really awesome design space.
Unfortunately this card is probably way too good in a lot of matchups, since for eight
mana you get to kill a big minion and get a huge weapon, and that’s barring scenarios
like them having a Cthun and you killing it and then attacking them for 20+ damage.
This is kind of balanced out by the fact that this card is really slow against aggressive
decks, but unless the meta was incredibly fast, Heartseeker is so broken in the matchups
that it's good in that it doesn’t really matter.
Overall this is a really awesome concept, but probably way too strong in the current
design.
Corrupted Ashbringer by willremember41 https://www.reddit.com/r/customhearthstone/comments/4zuagd/corrupted_ashbringer_deathrattle_weapon_for/
Last but definitely not least its Corrupted Ashbringer, a really sweet paladin weapon
that both let’s you discover a deathrattle card, and add it’s deathrattle to Corrupted
Ashbringer!
This is really cool mechanically, since you need to balance out the minion you want with
the deathrattle you want on the Ashbringer, and there’s a ton of crazy stuff you can
do with this card.
God forbid you discover a tirion with this card, since then you would get another ashbringer
after the corrupted one, and then another one if the tirion in your hand got played
and died.
This card is probably a little bit too strong in it’s current design, since it kind of
just destroys grindy matchups, but it’s definitely one of the coolest designs ever,
and letting cards discover their own deathrattle effect is definitely something we want to
see in the future!
Those are some sweet fan designed weapons, what kind of weapons would you like to see
added to the game?
