- Aloha loves, how's it going?
It's Ann, welcome back to my channel.
Today I am in Kauai.
It's toward the end of my family vacation trip.
And there have been so much things
that inspired me this week.
So I'm going to doodle some art,
that way I can use it for future reference.
And I thought this was a good way to share it with you.
So lets go ahead and get started.
Alright, so let's get started.
I just want to share with you
this incredible view that I'm looking at right now.
On the beach it is so beautiful.
Kauai is full of amazing, insane mountain range.
And that's what I want to capture in my journal.
It's just so memorable, one of the highlights
of being on this island.
By the way, this is my sketchbook, a doodle journal.
It's not my monthly planning journal.
So this is where I just dump all of my doodle, drawing ideas
onto this notebook and then later on I can always
refer back to this if I want to use
some of the artwork on my monthly planning journal.
So I do have a few journals.
One is for drawing, the other is for my planning.
And then I have a couple of other ones for specific things.
I sketch out my drawing with a pencil
and then I went over it with some watercolor.
And for the mountains I made some squiggly lines
in different shades of green.
And then to capture the fog
I'm using like a grayish blue color.
For the sand I mix a little yellow and a little brown.
This is all experimental to me,
so I'm just trying to mimic the texture and the colors
as best as I can.
And now I'm just going to let the paint dry
so that way I can work on it some more later.
I'm going to move onto the next page
and just draw out some flowers that I see a lot on the.
One is the plumeria and the other one is the hibiscus.
They come in so many different color variations.
I love flowers so much so I'm just going to paint the ones
that stood out to me and the most memorable ones.
This was such a nice and wonderful experience
to paint on the beach.
I just found a tree, sat under it and I painted away.
It's very easy to do.
All you have to do is travel with a little pocket notebook
or something that fits in your bag.
And this paint kit is so easy to take around with you.
You just need to add a little bit of water
from maybe your drinking water.
And it's an incredible experience,
very peaceful and serene.
For this next part I am actually at the airport,
drawing on the floor.
It was really nice 'cause I just zoned out.
I didn't care about what other people were doing
or if they were looking at me, whatever.
I was just really into my doodling.
So I'm just drawing out some things that I remember
while I was snorkeling.
And other things that I experienced
while I was on the island.
It was very memorable for me and it meant a lot,
because I can't swim.
My husband Eric found this snorkeling mask
that covers my whole face.
And I was able to stay in the water
for quite a long time and I got to see
all the tropical fish, sea turtles.
It was an incredible experience that I will never forget.
After sketching this out,
I'm going to add a couple splashes of watercolor.
Let this dry by going back to my flower page.
Now that this flower page is all dried up
I'm going over with my black pen
and just drawing out the flowers again.
When using watercolor, you definitely need to let
the paint dry before going over it with a pen.
That way the ink doesn't bleed.
It is a bit tricky because you have to kind of plan
the different layers you will be making.
But once you do it you'll get the hang of it
and it's not that difficult,
you know once you get the hang of it.
It's really fun to do.
I am back home in my home office.
And now I'm just going to draw out some trees
that I thought were very interesting looking.
And I wanted to know what it was that I was looking at.
So there was a tree that looked like a pineapple tree.
There was also this really cool looking tree
that I remember seeing all the time on the highway.
So I did a little research
and then I sketch out what I remembered
and then some fun facts that I learned about it.
This is just a really great way
for me to learn something new.
I've always loved like botanicals,
I love plants, I love nature.
And I feel like now on when I travel,
I'm going to take notes of plants
that I found really interesting.
I always see plants that looked unusual and interesting,
but I never took the time to research
and learn about them.
Because of journaling I'm able to make a visual note of it
and also find some fun facts that I would normally not.
So I learned that this tree is called the Moluccan Albizia.
I don't know if I said that wrong.
It's also known as the miracle tree.
And it looks like an African safari tree to me.
It's just beautiful, it looks very graceful
whenever you're driving through the forest.
It's like hovering over.
It looks like it provides lots of shade.
I learned that it's a very fast growing tree.
It's kind of weedy and invasive.
It's not native to Kauai.
In fact, it was brought to Hawaii for reforestation
in the 19th century.
It is native to New Guinea and it is actually used
to shade over coffee plantation.
I love the way it looks, but I find it very interesting
that it is an invasive tree.
So this next tree is also known as the tourists,
a pineapple tree.
Because it looks like a pineapple.
It's actually an ancient plant and the fossil of this plant
and this tree is found all over the world.
The leaves on this tree are very tough
and they're used for basket weaving
and also making other artwork.
This tree is both male and female
and the fruits are supposedly not very tasty.
I wanted to create another page of doodle art
because it's just really fun to practice.
And if you are nervous about drawing, anything,
just think about shapes
and how you can bring these shapes together
to create something that you wanted to go for.
That's basically what I did.
I mean some of 'em turned out well,
some of 'em looked a little weird.
But that's how you practice
and that's how you get better.
I love having a sketch notebook around with me.
This way I can always make rough sketches
or if I want to go a little farther, you know go for it.
This is for me to use and I recommend for anyone out there
who loves to be creative or wants to be creative,
to not be afraid and just have a book
where you can express yourself creatively
or take notes of the beautiful things in life.
Thank you all so much for joining me today.
Give this video a thumbs up
and let me know what other doodle art you would like to see.
I would like to do this every weekend,
so if you want to come back for more inspiration,
then come back every weekend.
Give this video a thumbs up.
Thank you all so much for watching.
I love you and I will see you soon.
Mwah, ciao.
