When Kendrick Lamar released his searing track "The Heart Part 4" a few weeks ago, he ended
it with a deadline: "Y'all got 'til April the seventh to get y'all shit together."
Last night we finally learned exactly what that meant.
K. Dot revealed last night, April the seventh, that he has a new album coming soon—like
next week soon.
The still-untitled album was made available for pre-order on iTunes, with an expected
release of April fourteenth.
Reaction veered between disappointed and hopeful at the revelation, with one fan pointing out
that, yes, Kendrick had just created a release date for a release date.
Within minutes of the pre-order link becoming live, one enterprising Redditor had figured
out how to hack iTunes to get the album's composer credits.
A quick scan reveals that, in addition to producers like Sounwave and DJ Dahi, some
big names got writing credit: James Blake, BADBADNOTGOOD, and even the members of U2.
We don't know what form any of these contributions will take: actual collaborations, samples,
interpolations, or something else entirely.
But no matter how Bono and company end up being involved, we'll tell you all about it
next week.
