Often times developers will hide hidden secrets that lie within a video game..
These are the easter eggs that’ll have you shaking your controller with fear.
You're watching gamerbrain and today we’re taking a look at the top 10 scariest video game easter eggs
Number 10
Who are you running from? - Gameboy Camera The Gameboy camera is one of the most well-known
peripherals out there but if you ever owned one of the popular Game Boy camera as a kid
then you’ve probably been scared out of your mind at some of the scary, unexplained
figures that may or may not have been looking back at you. I had the Gameboy camera growing and
There were a few of unexplained and oddly devilish looking photos that would randomly
appear when you clicked the “run” option (which was very similar to the option in pokemon)
in the menu screen of a RPG styled mini-game included with the camera. Regardless at the
time I didn’t realize how creepy these things actually were. The Japanese version of the Gameboy
camera includes two of these scary faces while the North American version has 3 of them.
The caption beneath the photo will either read “Who are you running from?” or
“Don’t be silly” along with a face that fuels nightmares. Maybe it’d be best if you stay far far away
from the old Gameboy camera you once loved as a child.
Number 9
Bloody Teddy Bear - COD Black Ops 2 If you’ve ever played one of the Call of
Duty games, then you may have noticed random teddy bears floating around in the game throughout
each map. Sometimes in the game they will have a specific purpose (like regaining health
or certain trophies) but other times they’re just completely in the background. One of
these bears in particular stands out to me as being super creepy and one of the creepiest
Easter eggs in the entire COD series. In Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Zombies, many of the
maps include said teddy bears. The bear that you’ll run across in the die rise map is
blood-soaked and seems as though it’s been sitting on its shelftop resting place for
a while. It really makes you wonder who the bear belonged to and if he or she is still
alive. If COD zombies wasn’t scary enough for you then this definitely helps add to the mood.
Number 8
Sonic CD - Hidden Menu for anyone that has ever played the Sonic
the Hedgehog series, the last thing that you would probably think of is something that
would only be found in your nightmares. Because to be honest there really is nothing about
this classic sega franchise that’s even remotely scary. That is, until Sonic CD came
out in the fall of 1993 and for gamers a small easter egg changed everything. The game granted
its players with one of the most disturbing and one of the most weird video game Easter
eggs that I’ve ever seen. In order to see it, all you have to do is pop in the Sonic
CD disc into the console and then complete the following button combination: “Down,
down, down, left, right”, after a brief screen jitter, what appears to be a sound
testing menu will appear on the players screen. Enter that same button combination once again
and a page of what appears to be strange Japanese text will be shown on screen with Sonic wearing
what is an oddly demonized mask with strangely human features. He is doing his trademark
finger shake, and there is some pretty eerie and unexplainable music in the background. This is definetly
not something I expected to find in a sonic game.
Number 7
Original Xbox Creepy Dashboard Sounds
The first Xbox (not to be confused with the Xbox One) was released in the early 2000’s
with major success but a lot of people don’t know this Easter egg even exists because it
isn’t found in any game on the console. There’s not too many Easter eggs out there
that’re found on the consoles themselves but this one is an exception to the rule.
When you leave your original Xbox on for an extended period of time you’ll hear distorted
voices that no one can quite make out, but there’s multiple people claim to have heard
that one of the voices sounds a lot like ‘I own your soul’. And it doesn’t stop there,
the longer you leave the console on the more disturbing and abrupt the noises will become.
Just imagine falling asleep and having your xbox console wake you up with demonic screeching and other
worldly noises, Not something I’d want either…
Number 6
Mount Gordo Ghost – GTA 5 As far as creepy Easter eggs and video game
urban myths go, the grand theft auto series is the king. The ghost of Mount Gordo in
Grand Theft Auto V can be considered one of the scariest easter eggs out of all games
to come out recently. Soon after the game was released, players found that if they were
able to go to a very specific point on Mount Gordo in the game between 11:00 PM and midnight, they'd
be able to see the ghost of a very scary looking woman out in the distance. She looks like
the stuff of nightmares and floats around before disappearing. She is covered in blood
and looks like someone you don’t want to go near. If you do go near her, she poofs away,
but then you'll be able to read a name that was written in blood beneath her, spelling
out "Jock." If you're feeling really adventurous, zoom in on her face with a sniper rifle when
she appears she'll definetly give you an extra spook.
Number 5
Pokémon X and Y - Lumiose City Ghost Girl
The Pokémon series is no stranger to creepy fan theories and haunted game cartridges,
but there is one Easter egg in Pokémon X and Y that is anything but fiction. If the
player goes into the second floor in one of the buildings within lumiose city, the music
will abruptly stop, Lights will flicker, and a dark haired girl with the same sprites as
a hex maniac will appear and tell the player “No you’re not the one”. Fans have spent
many hours piecing together clues and forming opinions about this Easter egg but no one
really knows for sure what the meaning behind it is. When asked about this specific easter egg
a producer for the game simply stated, “we never included anything like that in the game
Number 4
Robbie The Rabbit - Silent Hill 4 The Room
Robbie the Rabbit is definitely a staple of the Silent Hill series, appearing as
an anthropomorphic bunny with a bunch of blood smeared around his face.
As if the silent hill games weren’t scary enough, In Silent Hill 4
he appears as a stuffed animal that sits on your neighbor's bed.
in the game there is an option
to look through a hole in your apartment wall to spy on your neighbour.
if you do this he'll turn his head and point at the peep hole to shame you for spying on her
The fact that the rabbit is alive and just chilling there with her is pretty creepy
but no-one’s going to say anything about how you spy on your neighbor? That’s pretty disturbing in its own right as well.
for being in a video game.
number 3
Weird Primate Family – Halo 3
the Halo series usually includes a ton of Easter eggs in order to reward the player with many different difficulty modifying skull rewards.
But in Halo 3 if the player jumps up a very specific cliff in the sierra 117 level of Halo 3 for the Xbox 360 you will find a strange family of creatures
that look like a cross between primates and humans.
If that wasn’t creepy enough for you one of them is holding what appears to be a teddy bear.
There really is no purpose or explanation out there for this Easter egg being in the game, and it largely went unnoticed by players when the game was released.
No trophy is rewarded for finding the family, however if you shoot at them blood will spill from their static bodies.
there really is no rhyme or reason for this easter egg and players are
still left wondering why it was included in the game at all.
number 2
out of this dimmension hidden level - Starfox
If you have ever played star fox for the SNES you’ll know that there is a hidden black hole level
but if you dig a little closer you’ll find that there is another secret,
and even more creepy level that isn’t even shown on the games map screen
most players have no idea it even exists and never will.
in order to access it you will need to go to the hard asteroid belt stage and destroy a green asteroid which will release a giant space bird.
When you fly into the bird you’ll be thrown into a warping waving stage full of stars and mysterious planets
that have faces on them, said faces that are grinning at you the entire time.
No one has ever really figured out why this stage was included in the game,
as it seems to have nothing to do with the actual storyline. I guess us players will never know why it was included
Number 1
Left For Dead Witch – Payday the heist
in the game payday the heist there is a mission included with in the story that takes place in mercy hospital
which some of you may remember from left for dead. When the power is cut in the hospital
there is a chance that you’ll see something you didn’t anticipate.
While you play through the mission the witch from the left for dead game will appear in front of the player behind a locked glass door
in the hallway near the reception desk, there in front you’ll see her sitting there nearly lifeless.
While that is scary enough in itself, if you stare at her for too long you will upset her
and she will begin to screech and moan at you as well as lunge in your direction
The witch is also seen in the left for dead series like I mentioned
and for players who pay the consequences of getting scared.
