Today we're going to, very quickly, get through 30 recent reads.
Don't panic, it sounds like a lot more than it was.
I re-read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo.
The first time I read this book, I had a lot of reactions to what she was saying,
and I think I gave it three or even two stars.
But I think about this book all of the time, so I decided to re-read it.
I really love decluttering and organization and minimalism,
so I enjoyed it a lot more the second time around.
I read Fruits Basket volumes 11 through 22.
Fruits Basket has always been one of my Top 3 favorite anime,
but this is my first time ever reading the manga.
The anime stops at around the volume 6, so I got a tremendous amount of new content
from reading the series.
I will discuss the series as a whole in another video.
I also read volumes 3 through 5 of The Ancient Magus' Bride.
I'm currently waiting for the 6th volume.
It's, like, in delivery from Amazon.
I recommend this to all lovers of the fantasy genre.
And I don't mean to sound redundant but it's a unique work that reminds me of no other.
I was trying to buddyread Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys,
but I DNFed it because I felt like I'd already read it before.
During the first 50 pages/12 chapters, we're exposed to the brutal reality of what WWII
was like.
But this book shows that in the same ways that every other book about WWII shows that,
so even though I can appreciate the author's personal familial connection to the war,
I feel like once you've read one WWII book, you've read them all.
Before I became a reader in 2014, I had read Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman
and loved it so much that I thought Alice Hoffman could be one of my favorite authors,
so I bought a bunch of her books.
This was a mistake.
I DNFed The Red Garden, the Museum of Extraordinary Things.
The Dovekeepers kept a lot of my attention.
I thought that I finally found a book as good as Practical Magic,
but the entire first narrative glorifies cheating and cuckolding as if it's some sort of magical
thing, and I really hated those plot decisions so
I DNFed it.
I also DNFed Clockwork Planet, vol. 1 after a couple of pages.
I received this from Loot Anime Crate, which I'm an Influencer for.
If you want to know more about that, check out the link in the card.
I had no interest in this manga.
It's written for cishetmen and it has offensive fanservice,
so I dropped it.
I made progress with Heroine Shikkaku with volume 4.
This series started off very strong for me, but I'm not happy with some of the current
plot choices.
I anti-ship the protagonist with her love interest so hard.
If they ever get together, I'm gonna be disappointed.
I made progress with Kitchen Princess, vol. 2, which I'm not impressed with,
and Chi's Sweet Home, vol. 5, which continues to be a lot more of what it is.
I read Kimi ni Todoke, volumes 12 and 13, and I really enjoyed these volumes a lot.
We learn about the start of one of the best fictional female friendships ever, in these
two volumes.
I DNFed Splintered because it was boring.
I initially loved the fairytale retelling elements, even though Alice in Wonderland
is not one of my favorite stories.
I would love to know what your favorite retellings are, because I think it's a subgenre I could
really get into.
Then I read Emma, volumes 3 through 6.
And pardon my slang but volumes 3 and 4 were LIT.
They were so entertaining and dramatic.
I was surprised because volumes 1 and 2 were kind of tame in comparison.
I own the second to last bind-up and the last bind-up is on its way to me through Amazon,
I am so excited.
Lastly, I read Bloom Into You, vol. 2.
This volume had a lot more depth than the first.
All of the problems I had in volume 1 were addressed in this volume,
so I look forward to reading more.
So there you have it, I have somehow managed to update you on 30 reads in one video.
And yet I am still behind on reviews.
Don't forget to recommend some 4 and 5 star fairytale retellings,
and come talk to me in the comments! <3
