Today I will review a book that I read in Easter
I know, it's been a long time, but it's ok. The review is here!
The book is the Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
I had checked it firstly in English and I had heard so many great things about it
So I got the greek version of the book to see what it is about
and let me tell you, I adored it
it is one of the best books I have read in 2017 and 2016 and 2015
It was a pleasant suprise
It is the kind of book that you read in one sitting
the world is based on the romantic era
I don't know if you can call it dystopian
It has two main characters
and we read from both of their points of view
The empire in the book was enslaved the Scholars
who is another nation of people
and the book is full of violence which is justified
like if someone from the Martial Empire rape a Scholar
There won't be any punishment
and as I said the book has to do with two characters
Elias and Laia
The book starts with Laia and her brother
One day soldiers come to their house because they suspect that her brother
is helping the Rebellion against the Martial Empire
and this is why they arrest him
Laia is full of guilt because she didn't do something to stop them
and from this moment she tries to save her brother no matter the cost
On the other hand, Ellias is a special kind of soldier
this kind is trained from a young age
and they are the best and the most ruthless
But Elias has lived as a free boy
and he doesn't like the violence, or doing harm to the Scholars
In the beginning of the book he is planning of escaping
Both of them were very interesting to me
It suprised me that I liked them both of them equally
and the fact that I didn't get bored with any of the chapters
I just couldn't wait to read the next chapter
I couldn't wait to see what would happent next
and how I could forger for a chapter Laia
and then I would read about Elias
It was so quick and full of tention
I liked it so much!
There is romance in the book
But I was more interested how these two characters wil interact with each other
and how they will unite their powers to escape this awful world
I also liked a lot the fantasy aspect of it
When I got it, I didn't expect to be a fantasy novel
I thought that it would have only action elements
But it had fantasy in it, there was a kind
that remind me the silent brothers from the mortal instruments
Who know everything and tell us nothing
and they play a big part in the story
They say to Laia that what ever happened here is only the begining
And I was like, if this is only the beginning, then their future will be hell
I strongly recommend to read this book
it is an amazing book
I can't wait for the second one to be published in greek
I am holding my self not to buy it english cause I don't think it will be the same experience
if I read the one in greek and the other in english
I liked it a lot, it's one of my favourites
It's published by psichogios books(greek publisher)
Information for the greek publisher
