G2 Esports!
We went 2-8,
and uh...
we lost every game except to Wildcard teams.
I think Europe wants us to do good, finally
because we have disappointed so much
so we can't come back with empty hands.
The reputation around G2 Esports coming into MSI last year
was they were these new guys--new, young,
young players coming in, dominating in Europe
and fans were hoping these guys would be
that new European super team that could perform internationally.
And I think that's also why when they actually failed
and you know, with their vacation announcement after as well
everyone just got so angry.
They're like, "How can you go to an international tournament,
representing Europe,
a region that has actually done fairly well at a lot of tournaments in the past
and then you don't even care?"
That kinda gave them that reputation of just being
a joke,
after that tournament, 'cause people were like, "How can we take this serious,
if you don't even take the tournament serious, why would we care about you as a European fan?"
Do you mind if I sign some things?
No, I don't mind.
I wasn't part of MSI, last year,
but...
even after the event, I was sure that
just because you lost one tournament or went 2-8 at a tournament, doesn't mean you're a bad team or anything,
and G2 was one of the only teams that where I would go together with Mithy
so I thought it would be a good team for us, and I was sure we could make this team a good team.
Remember that even though you're nervous playing against SKT
think about how nervous they are playing against the gods of Europe.
Daehan, you can push out bot a lot now, we can try and get a vision, and get a pick.
What's our next play? Just play around Luka, he has a lot of pressure.
Yeah I have Blade now too.
- I go top. - I'm gonna push bot wave.
Late game is always a comeback.
Nice hair.
You need a haircut.
More pigtails?
I will stay focused, because no matter how hard you int, there's hope.
He's really good, really smart,
everything fucking good, you know,
but this is lucky.
The gank we talked about before scrims was red buff, wolves, blue buff
not our red buff.
But, but enemy can cheese, so early game, no matter what, be careful.
Ok, sorry.
Our bad.
Is that what you wanna hear or what?
I mean...
I don't know what you want.
Yeah, it's our bad.
Everyone feels upset that we haven't been performing to the level we want to perform to
even in the wins we haven't been playing perfect, and in the losses we have been playing worse than we want to
even when we're losing, I think we can give the other team a better fight.
With a lot of things to work on, so hopefully we're able to
fix them all in time, and step it up for the next few games.
They're still running towards their base and TSM have to get back there
to defend it or they're going to lose the game!
And G2...
We can end, we can end.
Nice, nice, nice.
- Go, go, go. - Jayce is here
- Going, going. -End, end, end!
- End, end. - Hit the Nexus!
I can't hit the Nexus look at that guy in my face.
This could be it they've taken down Zven as well!
- Oh, we can't end. - I can't hit the Nexus.
Don't say hit Nexus.
They're going for Expect, GA has popped,
two alive for G2, TSM to take them down
and it's time to go back into the base.
Sorry.
It's fine.
I think they can end maybe.
Wait.
I think you can go, Yun, no?
Just hide, look, they need to catch bot wave, one person has to go bot, one person has to go bot.
They're ulting, they're ulting behind us, think he can maybe go end, no?
It's only Rumble, it's only Rumble, it's only Rumble.
He has no ult, Yun.
Here he tries.
He's flashed, here he goes.
They see him now, here comes Hauntzer
does he have the damage, he Q’s in for a bit of movement speed, kicks him back.
Trick only needs five autos!
To flash, miss the Harpoon!
- One, two, three, four-- - He got it!
They can't end, they can't end, ok?
- They can't end. - Are you sure?
They have no creeps, they can't end, you guys.
- They have one creep. - They have creeps.
I have Redemption.
Oh my God, I missed.
I don't have anything.
I'm up in ten seconds...
...in they go, TSM still against the clock
it's gonna be close, I think they have it though.
- With a 200hp nexus, it’s gonna be it. - Ah they got it. It’s only Braum.
The Nexus turret number two is down!
The Nexus is going to fall, and TSM--
- Oh my God!! - in the strangest game I have cast
take the win over G2!
We were very close to ending the game by the Nexus
but after the game, I looked at myself and thought,
"Yeah, ok, I screwed up the mechanics of ending the fight and whatever, right"
but the thing that matters the most here is that
we were really far behind in the early game
and we still somehow managed to make this game
the game ended like this, right?
Where we almost had the game, when we're down
maybe 10k gold to
their comp, and we fell behind early game too.
So we should be happy that we managed to make them sweat for their lives in this game.
If we have that kind of day again, we can beat TSM.
G2 has worked harder than any team in Europe.
They've done everything they've actually needed to do
coming into MSI, they came in early, practiced early,
they were ready, honestly.
If they end up losing,
no one will remember that.
'Cause once again, people will just look at the results and say, "Well, you didn't win."
Today is...
basically all or nothing.
Either we make it out of groups or we go home.
Everything is decided today.
Especially in our match against TSM.
So... so, yeah.
All guns out, you know.
Please don't be afraid. If we lose, we lose, but at least try your best, you know?
No worries, guys, remember.
One, two, three, G2 fighting!
The most important NA versus EU game in recent history.
At least one LCS team will advance today.
I mean all of the pressure for this entire tournament
for both of these teams comes down to this game.
You know what I think?
Yeah I think Nunu's really good.
Nunu, Caitlyn. Because look, Lulu and Karma are out so we will outscale them no matter what.
So I pick Caitlyn?
Okay.
- They're all fine. - Anything not good?
No, I think it's fine.
NA versus EU, let's see who comes out on top!
- He's recalling. - He doesn't go for the full execute.
Will Bjergsen actually go up?
I think he will! He's found him! Bjergsen finds Perkz and secures first blood.
Don't worry, don't worry.
Summs? Summs? Summs?
He has no Flash, no Exhaust.
And the Equalizer cuts off the retreat path
Mithy and Trick are down!
Double kill for Bjergsen!
North America erupts in elation.
TSM just got absolutely everything.
Team SoloMid on the verge of securing the third seed
if they can use this Baron buff to break open the base.
Try and make it hard, ok?
- Stall it, stall the Baron. - Don't give it for free.
And I have Flash in one minute.
Ok, ok.
In the game, I think, we're more of a team now.
not by being
one plus one, plus one, plus one, right?
and that's kinda like what G2 was for a long time, I think
and I think now we're trying to beat teams by being the better team.
Rumble, Rumble, Rumble!
Haunzter no Flash!
Remember he had no Flash from the greedy pathing earlier
Equalizer comes down and Expect takes him down!
Nice, nice, nice.
This takes all of the wind out of TSM's sails at the moment.
They know we started, they know we started.
Smite is available, and needs to be taken down.
The Baron is the focus, and Trick--
Oh my, he got it.
G2 secure another baron. It's 50 minutes in.
Well now we're actually full late game 'cause there are full items on Zven and Perkz.
This game is just balancing on a knife edge.
One mistake from either team could cost them.
Ok, now we're really strong.
- We cannot base race like this, ok? - Yeah, yeah.
- Now we can... - Run a bit, run a bit.
Now we can run it down middle.
We can TP top too and buff the wave, no?
Ivern no Flash! Ivern no Flash!
Ivern, Ivern, Ivern!
...and TSM they have to defend!
Svenskeren's caught up by the Explosive Cask!
He goes down, Zven takes him out!
A 5-man knock-up from the Stranglethorns will not deter G2.
I have Redemption in 20 seconds.
Slow, slow.
20 seconds Redemption.
Zven continues to play on the front foot.
Oh, they're getting a bit greedy right now, Trick is low--
They got Bjergsen! Expect and Perkz catch him out.
Haunzter flashes forward with the Flamespitter
Redemption comes down to heal up G2.
I think no, back, back, back.
No, we're all low HP.
Come, come, believe me!
Ok, ok, ok.
They're not stopping!
G2 right now has a late game comp they don't need to risk it all on this play right now
but they're staying, they're so low on HP.
Jayce, Jayce, Jayce,
Jayce!
The confidence is there, Bjergsen is caught out, he's down!
The Bjergerking is down!
Oh my God.
Late game is always ours, guys.
G2's shot at international redemption stays alive!
Today, your first time, you showed confidence.
Yeah, really good.
They wanted the European fans to trust them.
Shaky moments.
But in the very end, they take down TSM.
If G2 manage to
potentially even make the Final, actually play some really good League of Legends
then I think
a lot of these guys who are kinda...
hating on G2 because they've been underperforming internationally, they will stop talking.
And I actually don't think it's necessarily about
removing haters specifically, I think it's more just proving to yourself
and to everyone who actually cares about European teams internationally
that you have worked extremely hard, and you have learned from your mistakes.
and you are now actually able to perform against some of the best teams in the world.
Proving to everyone else in Europe,
that we actually have a strong team in G2 Esports that we can all rally behind
that's what G2 Esports wants to achieve
and step one for them right now, is, you have to do well at MSI.
