Floor cushions make for comfy seating in almost any room in the home.
The one I'm going to make has a zipper so you can replace the pillow insert when needed.
So let's get started.
The materials you'll need are: 2 yards of fabric, I'm using 1 yard of Covington Kantha Surf fabric,
and 1 yard of Premier Prints solid village blue fabric, 2 yards of natural featherproof ticking fabric,
a 27" upholstery zipper, a ruler, thread, scissors, a fabric marker, ballpoint pins,
and also a 32" down pillow form and an iron.
Measure and cut a 31 by 31 inch square on the wrong side of each decor fabric.
I'm making the casing 1" smaller than the pillow form so it makes the pillow look a little more full.
Also measure and cut two 31 by 31 inch squares of feather proof ticking fabric.
Line up each decor fabric face up on to a piece of ticking.
Fold one edge of both fabrics over a 1/2" and iron
Do the same for the second fabrics.
Line up the zipper between the folded sides of each fabric.
Make sure it's positioned evenly in the middle.
Unzip the zipper and pin along the side.
Switch the foot to a zipper foot.
Starting at the top of the fabric, stitch along the zipper with a 1/8" seam allowance to the end of the fabric.
Back stitch at the beginning and the end.
Repeat to attach the other side to the zipper.
Fold the pieces in half so that the right sides are facing each other.
Starting at the bottom of the zipper, pin the edges together all the way around to the top of the zipper.
Stitch with a 1/2" seam allowance.
Make sure the zipper is open so you can fold it to the right side afterwards.
Sew at the edge of the seam along the sides and bottom with a zig zag stitch.
This gives the edge a nice finish and prevents the fabric from fraying.
Clip the corners and trim off any loose threads.
Fold to the right side and poke out the corners.
Insert the pillow form and close the zipper.
It's best to have a zipper so that you can replace the pillow insert when it starts to get flat.
It also makes the casing last longer.
Thanks for watching this OFS project.
