In this video, I'm gonna show you how to repair
the side walls of a nail
that has slowly died a death.
(upbeat music)
So, if we look at this nail, let's have a little look,
inspect the nail.
This is all missing, the sides are missing.
Let me get a file so you can see where it should be.
So there should be nail here.
No nail there.
It's gone walkies and split and fallen away.
And the same has happened on this side,
not quite as bad,
but yep, we still have missing nail.
So we need to square it up and give it more structure.
So, first of all, I'm gonna push back the cuticles.
And take away any non-living tissue.
I'm just gonna use a white block
to remove the surface shine.
(grating)
Just gonna wipe over
with a little bit of acetone,
and you can also use gel residue wipe off solution.
Now the length is quite good.
It's just the sides, we need to get those sides level,
make it look more natural, yeah?
So some people think when this might happen
that we've got to chop the nail off,
we've got to stick a tip on, or we've got to do
a false sculpted nail,
but you don't have to do that.
We can preserve the nail that is still alive.
Oh, we've got high hyponychium.
Right, so Tammy's nail is got a really high smile line,
so the hyponychium,
let me have a look underneath,
Can you see that hyponychium there?
Here, so this seals the nail plate
and the nail bed together.
Now, when I try to put a form on,
let's see if I can do this upside down.
Never done this before.
I can't get it to fit as snug as I want to
because of that,
so I'm gonna cut this form to fit.
So I can fit that a lot easier now I've cut the smile line,
so I've cut the smile line of the sculpting form
to fit a little bit better,
and we can now fill the sides.
Just make sure that that's fitting as neat as you can.
Now we're just dehydrating with the dehydrator.
And prime.
I'm gonna use porcelain,
blotted the back of the brush
so no more monomer feeds into it.
So we don't want to touch the acrylic
and then keep feeding liquid into that.
I'm just gonna go in at the side,
Place up there and sweep it up nicely so it blends
onto that natural nail.
Look at that, we have a side already.
It already looks amazing!
I blot the back of the brush out
because I want the bead to not really move anywhere.
I want it to only move when I touch it with the brush,
and I also want a stronger pigment of colour.
Then I'm gonna use soft beige
and I'm gonna do a thin layer
over the rest of the nail,
and we will drag it over onto that porcelain colour
that we've done as well.
Then we're gonna use True Pink.
Tipping the finger down so it draws away from the cuticle.
And with this bead, we're making sure we've got the apex.
True Pink is a transparent pink,
so it'll just add a little bit of colour,
but it's mostly there for the structure.
If you don't have True Pink, you could use clear,
or you could buy True Pink.
Now we're gonna let that set,
and then we'll file and finish.
We're gonna take the form off,
so we're just gonna file the side walls.
(filing)
Just gonna smooth over with the white block,
not a house brick,
a white block.
(filing)
I'm gonna clean over with pure acetone.
And I'm gonna top coat.
Pop that in the lamp.
Now that's cured, I am gonna finish with cuticle oil,
bit of coconut.
Just like I said before, I love coconut.
So we still have a natural looking nail,
but we've repaired the sides
and now it's a natural shape
rather than a weird side wall missing strange shape
that wouldn't have lasted, ooh, another day I don't think.
Side walls do give a nail it's strength,
so it's now nice and strong and still looks natural.
There you are guys!
