Jinder Mahal WWE Championship Plans Leaked? CM Punk MTV Bust Up!

Hello and welcome to the WrestleTalk News! I’m Oli Davis.
Following her NXT TakeOver: Chicago win last Saturday - where she pinned both Ruby Riot
and Nikki Cross (I’m don’t know if they’re counting that as two victories) - NXT Women’s
Champion Asuka has not just passed Goldberg’s actual winning streak number of 157, but also
the fictitious amount WCW made up of 173. Asuka is now undefeated in NXT, with 177 wins.
That number’s probably increased since I started talking. I’m afraid of her.
Asuka tweeted in celebration: “I respect Goldberg so much. He is amazing.
I am honored to be the undefeated champion with the longest streak in WWE history. #WWE
#WWENXT” To which Bill himself replied:
“PRAYING EMOJI ......the "streak" is in very good hands FIST BUMP EMOJI #Congrats
CLAP EMOJI” Two wrestlers who both got over with wins
and losses meaning something. What a novelty. Asuka wasn’t the only WWE wrestler celebrating
yesterday. After becoming the fifth WWE Champion of 2017 so far, defeating Randy Orton at Sunday’s
Backlash pay-per-view, Jinder Mahal was recognised by the Canadian government. Speaking in the
Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canadian politician Graham Sucha referenced a newspaper
article headlined ‘Don’t Hinder Jinder Mahal’ and that the Maharaj was the first
Calgarian professional wrestler to win the WWE Championship in 20 years - the last being
Bret Hart. “I think I speak for all Albertans when
I would like to congratulate this talented wrestler from Calgary on his championship
win.” I’m not 100% sure how politics works, but
I’m pretty certain that means Jinder now runs Canada.
Just an hour before Mahal beat Orton for the title on Sunday night, Sportskeeda broke the
news that the Maharaj would be winning, and that the result was only finalised on the
day of the show. Mahal might’ve confirmed that in his interview with the site since,
revealing he only found out he would be becoming the WWE Champion “the day of” the show.
Jinder seems to be Vince McMahon’s latest pet project, with Mahal also telling Sportskeeda
that the WWE Chairman has been personally scripting his promos, feeding back with notes
and being the genius mind behind the anti-US heel character, and that “Vince was very
happy” with his Backlash performance. But how long do WWE officials see Jinder’s act
going? According to Wrestling News World - so take
this with a pinch of salt, as they’ve been pretty patchy as of late - “Currently, unless
there is a SIGNIFICANT dive in ratings or ticket sales, the plan is for Jinder Mahal
to carry the WWE Title until the Royal Rumble in which he would drop it to...John Cena.”
The new season of The Challenge is currently airing on MTV, this time round with the subtitle
Champs Vs. Pros. The gimmick being former winners of The Challenge take on professional
athletes in various physical tasks. One of those pros is former WWE Champion and currently
contracted UFC fighter CM Punk. And on last night’s episode, Punk clashed with one of
the more obnoxious ‘Champs’ Johnny Bananas - if you want to know how obnoxious...well,
his name is Johnny Bananas. After losing a challenge where competitors
had to roll around a course wrapped in cellophane - looking like a deleted scene from the Human
Centipede - Punk promised he’d live to fight another day. Johnny Bananas said he shouldn’t
be proud of losing, and then cut the promo: “I tell you what I don’t do - I don’t
go to the UFC and get my ass whooped...I get it, that’s your persona, and it’s gotten
you nowhere in life.” To which Punk calmly responded: “IS THAT AN INSULT? IS THAT AN
INSULT!? BECAUSE YOU’RE AN IGNORANT F****** MOTHER F*****! YOU’RE A F****** FAN!”
The Challenge’s host Victor Cruz had spoken to Peter Rosenberg about the confrontation,
saying the two went nose-to-nose and were ready to fight. MTV Executives apparently
wanted Cruz to break the two up, but he wisely decided not to get involved.
