Overwatch Anniversary Event! Monthly News Recap

hey folks this is rhykker with an
overwatch news recap and analysis video
on some of the most important things
going on in the world of overwatch if
you haven't been following overwatch
news super closely then here are some of
the things you may have missed over the
past month
first off next week will mark overwatch's
first-year anniversary and
Blizzard is celebrating with an in-game
event we don't have too many details yet
but the event will run from May 23rd
through June 12th we got a sneak peek at
three new maps coming with the event
each of which seemed to be extensions of
existing Maps first we see what appears
to be dorado with a statue of a young
president guillermo perfetto
back when he was a soldier and another
area with sombras headquarters to the
side you can see what appears to be an
early version of her conspiracy web
missing many of the notes
regardless being able to see this in
game will certainly give us at least one
more clue towards that whole conspiracy
mystery you can check out our video on
the conspiracy web right here the second
map appears to be another area in ICANN
Valda did I get a right Germans and it
seems to be raining this will be our
first map with rain or any kind of
similar weather effect next appears to
be another area in temple of Anubis the
statues are the giveaway now blizzards
tweet called these maps arena maps and
eco point Antarctica is classified as an
arena map so this most likely means that
these maps are coming to the 3v3 and/or
1v1 game modes some people have pointed
out that we see the spawn room with a
healing cross on its entrance at the
start of this clip and that doesn't
exist in 3v3 matches you can't go back
to spawn to heal however you do see this
before a match starts if you're waiting
for more players to join so that doesn't
prove that these are not elimination
maps now in the topic of new maps it was
about a month ago that game director
Jeff Caplan spoke a bit about new maps
that the team had in development he said
we currently have three maps and
development all past the initial play
testing phase and these are standard
Maps quit playing competitive while
something could always change all three
of those are looking
likely for a release this year we also
have three non-standard Maps in
development these won't go into quick
play and competitive we also have a few
other experiments going on so it seems
safe to assume that these three
non-standard maps are the three that
were revealed this week so if you're not
into 3v3
you still have three other maps to look
forward to this year now also worth
bringing up is a theory that arose
almost a month ago from reddit user
redstone assassin he found a postcard on
the illios lighthouse map that seems to
depict an alternate version of the
illios ruins map his theory is that
there's a hidden room in illios and that
this somehow ties into a God program
represented by the goddess of wisdom
Minerva aka Athena now someone actually
glitched through the map and founded
there is no hidden room but all that
proves is that there's no hidden room on
the current live version of the map
there could still in theory be a hidden
room in a future version of the map say
for a PvE event now while this is an
interesting theory a much simpler
explanation at least at the time was
that this was an older version of Elios
and since then changes have been made to
the map layout another possibility now
though is that this could be another
section of Elios being made into an
arena map just like dorado like involved
in temple of Anubis that we saw this
week still just speculation though and
Jeff did say three non-standard Maps and
we are getting three in addition to the
new maps we also got a preview of some
new voice lines have a listen it's my
time to shine I'm not your father
setting up the kalash ah-ah-ah justice
right on right on right on
ah next rounds on me
of good old boy costume Lucy oh oh we
also got a preview of new dance emotes
coming with the event
other characters are likely getting
dance emotes as well during boss Con
2016 at the overwatch our panel we saw
this glimpse of soldiers awkward dad
dance also summer will finally be
getting a sitting emote as for what
other cosmetics we can expect to get
during this event it'll most likely be
what we always get with skins of course
stealing the spotlight and good news for
Symetra Mane's because any thread titled
is symmetric etting a legendary skin
soon jeff replied on May 8th I think
Symetra fans will be pleased very soon
now about a week ago a leak from the
Microsoft Store revealed what the
anniversary event loop boxes will look
like with a description that read
celebrate over watches anniversary with
a batch of commemorative treats for your
heroes during a new event over watch
anniversary kick off the celebration
with a bang by picking up anniversary
loot boxes asterisks every lube box
contains up to four cosmetic items
including at least one anniversary skin
Spray highlight intro emote victory bows
player icon or voice line more than 100
anniversary goodies are waiting for you
if your anniversary loot box contains an
item that is already in your collection
you will instead receive in-game credits
that you can use to acquire many
customization options anniversary loot
boxes are available to purchase or earn
in-game until June 5th 2017 so it seems
they got the date wrong since we know
the event ends on June 12th and while
this may appear to make this leak seem
less legit that could have been a
placeholder date or it could have been a
description that was written a long time
ago when maybe that was the intended end
date up to now the Microsoft Store leaks
have been legit on the topic of loot
boxes now thanks to new regulations in
China that recently went into effect
Blizzard is forced to publicly disclose
loot box probabilities and those
probabilities are that out of the four
items in a loop box at least one item
will be of rare or higher quality on
average every 5.5 loop boxes contain an
epic item and every thirteen point five
blue boxes contain a legendary skin that
said this information pertains
specifically to the China region it is
possible that those are may have
different numbers for other regions
they're not required to disclose the
numbers for other regions and while it
may be a dickish thing to do to have
lower probabilities in other regions
knowing that they would have to reveal
that China regions at a however remote
possibility now in addition to the
anniversary event from May 26th of May
29th
overwatch will be free to play across
all platforms
so if there are friends you have that
you want to get into overwatch the first
weekend of the event will be the weekend
to do it also on May 23rd blizzard will
make available for purchase the
overwatch game of the Year Edition which
will be the same as the origins Edition
but with ten free loot boxes included so
that about wraps up our news of the
upcoming event let's now quickly go over
other important news from the past month
we found out that season four will end
on May 28th in America and possibly May
29th in Europe depending on your time
zone May 29th at 0 o'clock UTC is the
precise time another big headline less
than a month ago
overwatch celebrated reaching 30 million
players which is up from 25 million in
January and 20 million in October you
can compare these numbers to the typical
Call of Duty yearly releases that see
around 30 million sales a less exciting
headline a couple weeks ago there was an
alleged leak about custom weapon skins
coming to overwatch the ability to sort
of mix and match weapon skins between
different skins and in case you didn't
hear the update to that alleged leak it
was confirmed fake by the person who
caused the leak and we were all
disappointed
now overwatch is first lore based event
uprising ended on May 2nd and Blizzard
published some statistics in the form of
an infographic if you couldn't beat
uprising on expert difficulty don't feel
too bad the average win rate was only 3
percent and the average win rate for
legendary 0.6%
that means that only 6 out of every 1000
matches played on legendary resulted in
a win some good news for players who are
either not PC players or haven't been
participating in the heroes of the storm
cross promotional events in which you
could have gone the only games you skin
or the officer diva skin don't worry
these skins will be added to normal loop
boxes in the future lore good news for
those of you care about tracking your
stats and mostly play arcade jeff has
said quote we would like to add arcade
stats as well as a total stat section to
the career probe
that's very different from saying we
will be adding arcade stats but it's
certainly promising now here's a story
that isn't necessarily news but emerged
in the public eye about a month ago
initial concepts for May were much more
badass codenamed frostbite she would
either be a mountaineering adventurer or
a bounty hunter wielding a dual handed
weapon and looking much edgier as you
can see and here's what this text reads
May started out as a character concept
codenamed frostbite we knew that we
wanted to have a hero whose abilities
were related to ice and cold but we
didn't have any other parameters we went
through the process of hero ideation and
ultimately drew inspiration from the
winter ice carving festivals in the
northern parts of China slowly the
character of May took shape early on the
idea that the character was an
adventurer adapted to : violence and
geared for mountaineering early on the
idea that the character would that's not
a sentence we considered ideas like a
bounty hunter who use freezing
technology to capture her targets in ice
but Arnold Tseng drew a picture of a
cute nerdy scientist and the ultimate
concept for May was born we imagined a
character who was optimistic loved
adventure and embodied the idea of a
normal person who could be inspired to
take up the path of heroism while May
did look much more badass in those early
concepts she also looked more generic I
think Blizzard went in the right
direction what do you guys think sound
off in the comments moving on a couple
weeks ago I made a video debunking some
alleged leak of secret videos being
uploaded to the overwatch YouTube
channels you can check out that video
here now after that there was another
alleged leak that came to light and
popularity the next day and I didn't
bother making a video about that because
it has no legitimacy whatsoever and it
could neither be proven nor disproven
but I'll just mention it here since
people have brought it up to me here are
his posts but the too long didn't read
version is that this dubious individual
claims that doom pisses coming in the
second quarter of 2017 and should be on
the PTR any
now he also claims a second character
named Bria is coming in the third
quarter of 2017 that is soon entering
internal testing and that a third
character named Ivan is coming in the
fourth quarter of 2017 that is still in
the early conceptualization stage he
goes on to claim that animated shorts
plural are coming very soon for the next
event
and the doom fists release and that a
new event will begin May 24th so where
to begin first off he claims he is with
blizzards QA team in Austin why say this
all it does is seem to convey legitimacy
without actually conveying any
legitimacy since anyone could claim that
and of the real overwatch leaks that
we've had none of the leakers ever
volunteered any kind of information that
could help trace them you know since
they could potentially be fired or sued
for breaching NDA so the skies these are
making this whole thing up or he's not
very bright because if he's caught he'll
likely never work in the video game
industry again moving on it was on May
2nd that he said we were days away from
having doom fist hit the PTR at this
point doom fist is unlikely to hit the
PTR until after the anniversary event
ends why would Blizzard undercut their
anniversary event by incentivizing
people to test out a super hyped
character on the test server and lastly
while his guests about the start of the
next event date was closed it was off by
a day May 24th is the anniversary of
overwatch and it was a pretty easy guess
that we would have an anniversary event
so could this leak be legit possibly but
nothing suggests it is legit all we can
do is wait to see more things come to
light to debunk it or prove it for that
matter ok 3 final bits of news before we
close out this video first off you know
how a lot of people feel that supports
get less SR in competitive matches
Blizzard has officially responded
basically saying that's not true at all
at least not as of the erisa patch being
on fire does not affect your SR the only
thing that affects your SR gain or loss
is your performance relative to quote
other similarly skilled players
with that hero across an enormous pool
of competitive matches so your mercy
play is being compared to other mercies
at your skill level not to the DPS on
your team second bit of news a dev team
within the overwatch dev team has been
working quote extremely hard for months
on the ability to save and export
highlights and we can expect more
details early this summer and lastly
Jeff believes adding more crosshair
options is pretty straightforward and
you'll see if his team can get it done
