Arena is a really fun and skill based format, and Blizzard has done a great job especially
as of late.
Still not all cards are created equal, and there are some cards that not only do you
want to slam pick them when you see them, but drawing those really powerful arena cards
can often just win you the game.
That’s why today we thought we’d go over our list of the ten best arena cards.
Our list might differ slightly from yours, or maybe from some pros, but we can definitely
promise that the following ten cards are insanely broken in arena.
Let’s jump right in!
First up it’s Call of the Wild!
It’s like casting three animal companions in a turn, except you only have to spend one
card on it.
Call of the Wild instantly builds you a board if you didn’t have one, wins you the game
when you’re ahead, let’s you recover if you’re behind, and can even give you lethals
when your opponent is still at a fairly high life total.
The huffer can immediately trade with something that has five health, and the misha has taunt,
so you get an insane nine drop that immediately affects the board in multiple ways.
Call of the Wild is insane in arena.
Up next it’s Firelands Portal!
Anything that is both a removal spell and gives you a minion is definitely worth looking
at in Arena, and firelands portal does both at a good price.
Five damage is enough to kill most minions, and you’ll usually have something else to
trade or be able to use your hero power to kill even bigger things.
So you get to kill a pretty good minion and get a random five drop, which will usually
have decent stats, all for only seven mana.
That’s a good deal in constructed, but just completely nuts in Arena.
Yet another mage card coming up, it’s Flamestrike!
Flamestrike has been one of the strongest cards in arena from the very start of the
game, and a one sided board wipe for only seven mana is insane in a format that revolves
entirely around the board.
If you don’t have a board you get to wipe your opponent’s and regain parity, and if
you do have a board when you cast flamestrike you just win.
If you somehow manage to pick up multiple flamestrikes in arena, you have an incredibly
easy road to 12 wins.
And the mage streak continues with Meteor!
Removal is really strong in Arena, and removal that kills pretty much any minion and possibly
kills two more is definitely worth getting looked at.
Even if you’re just killing one big thing Meteor still functions as an entomb/siphon
soul type effect, and if you get one or two extra kills out of it you put yourself incredibly
ahead.
Meteor is a little bit akward against divine shield, but that’s what your hero power
is for.
Meteor is a slam pick over pretty much any other epic you can get as Mage.
Moving on, let’s talk about Sunkeeper Tarim!
Six mana for a three/seven taunt is already a reasonable deal for arena, and making all
the other minions 3/3s is just completely crazy.
Like most symmetrical effects you just have to wait until it benefits you more than your
opponent, which isn’t too hard in paladin since you have your hero power and lots of
token generation.
Moreover, you can “lose board” on purpose and let your opponent play a bunch of giant
stuff, and then make a few tokens and play Sunkeeper Tarim and you’ve just won the
game.
Tarim can bring back games when you’re super behind, and put you even further ahead.
Like most cards on this list, Tarim is just almost always good, and so completely busted
in Arena.
Up next it’s Tirion Fordring!
Super hard to kill and good stats?
Check.
Has taunt and so protects you and immediately affects the board?
Check.
Gives you a weapon worth around 6-7 mana when he dies?
Big check.
Tirion just has it all, and even a completely new player could tell by the art and amount
of words on it that Tirion is ridiculously strong.
Tirion was one of the best arena cards when the game came out, and remains so to this
day.
Next up it’s Savannah Highmane!
There’s a reason there’s something called the “highmane rule” where if you play
a savannah highmane and it lives till your next turn you’re incredibly likely to win
the game.
Highmane has the most value of probably any six drop in Arena now that sylvanas is in
the hall of fame, and if you can keep the game evenish and drop highmane on turn six
your opponent will be hard pressed to answer it.
Highmane is a little bit worse than some of the other cards on this list in that it’s
not great when you’re behind, especially if your life total is under pressure, but
as long as you can survive your opponent’s turn it'll give you some insane trades, and
the overall value is definitely high enough to justify it being on this list.
Another six drop up next, it’s Fire Elemental!
Fire elemental has really solid stats, and the ability is really versatile, since you
can use it to ping off small things, set up trades with bigger things, or sometimes just
kill your opponent!
Effects like this tend to be great in arena, and Fire Elemental is like a smaller firelands
portal, where you get a better creature on average but less damage.
Fire elly is probably the card you want the most when drafting shaman in arena, and the
more of them you have the better.
A truly busted arena card.
And next we have abyssal enforcer!
Three damage AOE stapled to a six/six body for only seven mana is a huge steal, and the
fact that it has demon synergies and can also be used to kill the opponent puts abyssal
enforcers really far over the top.
It’s the best card you can draft in Warlock, and it can save you from some really poor
looking situations, all while being a common!
You can even set up good trades first and then play it, and getting a six/six stapled
to your hellfire for just three more mana is completely insane.
And last but definitely not least, since it’s probably the best arena card in the game right
now, it’s Vilespine Slayer!
You do have to enable the combo, although that shouldn’t be too hard in rogue, but
once you do it’s just a five mana three/four that kills a minion, and that’s just super
busted.
Assassinate was already a good arena card, and now you just get a three/four added on
for no extra mana, not to mention that shenanigans with things like brewmaster or especially
shadowstep are likely to just make your opponent concede on the spot.
We’ll see if anything changes in the arena meta, or maybe what we get in new expansions,
but for now Vilespine Slayer is the king of arena.
Those are some of the cards we think are the strongest in arena, what do you guys think
the strongest arena cards are?
