like to call them personally I don't like that phrase but what it means is
essentially is high specs low price-point but things here have changed
in 2017 with the release of the one plus five it's their most expensive mobile
yet and they have reused parts from the earlier model the 3t so we've got the
same fingerprint reader same front screen layout 1080p AMOLED panel which
isn't a bad thing this is a good panel this is a very good and accurate faster
fingerprint reader we do have a new rear housing that's slightly slimmer but it
comes at the cost of one hundred million hours of battery capacity but it feels
better in hand and they've added a new dual camera arrangement which they
promised will give us a lot better photo quality now being a darker color here
this gray almost black light color it is prone to fingerprints and smudges and
you're going to have to clean this probably once every couple of days if
you want it to look nice and pristine now things did change up here with the
camera modules of course because we've now got that 20 megapixel sensor that
has an aperture of 2.6 and then to the left of it is the 16 megapixel sensor
with a low aperture of 1.7 it does not have any optical image stabilization
which I believe is a huge mistake so one plus kit with the alert slider which is
a really good move I do like this it's so easy without even looking at your
phone to put it in to do not disturb mode vibrate only or into your general
sound profile we've got the volume rocker here which is made out of metal
it does not rattle around or anything so the build quality of that is great and
on the right side you'll find the power button well personally I would like to
power and volume buttons to be on the same side because I'm just used to that
on other MOBAs here and you'll find a cause the dual SIM tray which takes dual
nano SIM we still didn't unfortunately this yeah
get any micro SD card support so there are no ports along the top of the mobile
but on the bottom as well the action is here so the loudspeaker our type C port
microphone and 3.5 millimeter headphone jack brightness tops out at 900 lux
which is extremely bright you're not going to have any problems with sunlight
legibility and the touch accuracy of the screen really good it's very smooth very
responsive and you'll see that being an AMOLED panel that those blacks are super
dark they're almost as dark as the bezels around it so very hard to
actually see the difference between the bezel and the screen when it's on even
now one of the things that you'll notice that it colors are going to be a little
bit saturated here because of the nature of an AMOLED panel here but what we do
have of course is settings in the sitting menu so we can go through and
you can tweak the color temperatures tone down the saturation or even use the
RGB modes there to get a more accurate display personally I just leave it on
the standard setting so overall a top build from oneplus it's a flagship and
it feels like a flagship every bit it's good it's great in hand the feel of it
slightly improved of course with those rounded edges now if you're watching
this review know that you're aware of these specs it's running the latest
version of Android which is 7.1.1 and at the time the view it's oxygen OS
four point five point three now since I've had this mobile they've been
pushing out a lot of updates which is really good to see that they're on to
fixing the problems that have been coming up there's only been a mine a
couple of things and some tweaks which is great to see now speak wise it's got
the snapdragon 835 up to 80 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of internal u FS
2.1 spec storage it's of course 4g with two nano sims no micro SD card slot as
mentioned so make sure you select the right storage option for your needs
there and it has a 3300 milliamp hour battery wireless AC GLONASS
yes you name it it's covering all of that there apart from wireless charging
it lacks now the ROM and it's performance the optimization of the ROM
is where the 1+5 excels just like the 3t it is very quick getting around going
between your apps the UI performs very smooth it'll be one of the fastest
Android phones you'll have ever used if you haven't used the 3t then you know
what I mean when you pick one up and I love the fact that it's basically just
stock Android with some tweaks so we get extra settings we can find attune things
and it's quite good just giving us an extra level of customization there now I
haven't seen any performance issues really but I did see a few stutters and
things for example in Chrome and a Twitter app when I was on earlier
firmware versions but you see here that you can do some real heavy multitasking
I've got a lot of games running in the background of things and switching
between apps going back everything just performs really well it does not bog
down as quick as some other Mobile's well now thanks to of course having six
gigabytes of RAM you can do heavy multitask in there so if I go back and
find Twitter we'll have a look at the scrolling speed there which sure there's
been some concern I did see that jello effect that others have reported on
Damir was one of the first I think to bring that up bring that to everyone's
attention there but here you can see it doesn't seem to really be happening now
that performance isn't the fastest at the moment because take into account I'm
running probably about 10 different apps here and about three or four of those
eye games so that's going to have a slight impact but now on the latest
firmware update it doesn't seem to be an issue for me I haven't noticed it and I
find the performance to the excellent on this mobile one of the best things about
it keeping on the topic of performance Wireless is excellent you can see these
speeds here that's my max I can get out of my fiber line but not only the speeds
what really impresses me just like the Xiaomi me six is the fact that we've got
that two times two antenna setup and wireless so the range
is very good I mean I can go from the other side of the studio apartment here
and get very similar speeds it's pretty one of the best mobile phones when it
comes to that the performance of the range in the speeds that you're going to
get helped of course by the snapdragon 835 now 4G speeds no problems here this
is then of course the fastest you can get out of 4G but at the moment there's
a lot of tourists here the population is increased and I'm not getting the full
speed so I can normally get out of 4G on my network but I have no doubt in my
mind that it will get maximum top speeds there are no problems with that
now the ante to school we all know that they were caught cheating it's a very
good score but benchmark societies you've seen the performance of the ROM
is excellent and real-life use it's great so that if you love those numbers
then here they are Geekbench for another top score there and the internal storage
speeds ufs 2.1 speck blistering fast for a mobile phone really good reads there
and the random for case to excellent now these are just some of the firmware
updates that came through there have been a lot of fixes they've been pushing
that quite heavily now on to battery life now it's not quite as good as my
show me me 6 with the same chip set that's the only other phone I have
reviewed so far with a Snapdragon 83 5 that way and I can get over 10 hours of
screen on time with the display configured to 200 Lux and here I got two
hours now how that works out with my daily use means I can get two full days
of battery life better use which is great this is really good for me because
I couldn't do that with my samsung galaxy s a I could not make two days of
use now during that test to get the eight hours of screen on time that was
continual use okay so that's the screen on the whole time just using it I didn't
make any phone calls that wouldn't really have much of an impact on that
now the first cycle I did this I only had the screen on for I think it was
about six hours I was a little disappointed in that but the second
battery cycle it came through now to be quite
good I mean eight hours isn't bad it's just not as good as the v6
GPF just to mention it perfectly fine really accurate gets the lock very quick
driving around in town never lost my position and the accuracy maintained
around three at the best three metres of accuracy and up to around five six when
travelling in my car but perfectly fine the performance is very decent
so the phone wins records when it comes to charge times thanks to this rather
large - charger technology they have so using their charger and only their
charger you can get charge times that are blistering fast 30 minutes I times
got me fifty nine percent battery with the mobile on and then fully charged
took only one hour and twenty eight minutes again with the mobile on which
is great that is super quick the fastest I have seen yet but it's just a little
annoying that I would actually prefer them to enable something a little bit
more standard so I don't have to always use this charger so if I leave the
charger in the studio back home I cannot take advantage of my Qualcomm quick
charge three or even they could charge for spec that of course the a35 supports
so we just go single loudspeaker down the bottom which is reasonably loud the
quality is okay but it does distort at 100% volume let's have a quick listen to
it
so as you could hear from that that it is loud and you probably picked up on a
little bit of that distortion there it tops out at almost 90 decibels which is
very good now the voice call quality excellent the other end centered fine to
me I asked him how was my quality they said really good they couldn't hear any
problems at all so that is fine now the quality out of the 3.5 millimeter
headphone jack located on the bottom here is decent it's good but it's not as
good as those phones that have real high quality decks in them but the volume
output could be slightly louder but overall not bad at all there's no static
or interference or anything like that so gaming performance it's smooth but as
you can see here it does get a little choppy sometimes which I find to be
disappointing considering this is a Snapdragon 835 and Adreno 550 GPU sure
you get playable frame rates but it's not running 60 frames per second all of
the time you see that choppiness now and then and I've also noticed that it will
heat up and get up to around 39 38 degrees on the rear which is quite warm
to the touch you can see the slowdown just there I think that's unacceptable
for a Snapdragon 83 5 so 1 plus I've been really pushing this dual cam
arrangement they have been hyping it up a lot so does it live up to the hype you
even see it on the box here you can see dual camera clearer photos now it is
better than the 3t I feel but it's really missing one key element and that
is an optical image stabilized sensor not one of them has it we've got digital
in 1080p so you need to walk around with a tripod or a three access stabilizer
and not everyone is going to have that in your pocket
now the front-facing camera is a big improvement here
so we've got a 16 megapixel sensor and it does have digital image stabilization
so the shots look really steady lots of detail captured there on my face as you
can see this is example from my unboxing and now if we have a look at 1080p from
the rear camera the stabilization is good electronic image stabilization we
don't have it in 4k and you'll notice that it's not perfect to me it looks a
little Statuary at times and it's just not as smooth as it could be and we're
going to need maybe some software updates to improve on that tweak it but
over a little bit of a disappointment there now the dual sensor arrangement
allows us to get some of those prettier portrait looking shots with the bouquet
blurred backgrounds but around the edges it's not always perfect now this is
happening on the iPhone 7 plus and other models so no one's got that perfect yet
but it can take a nice photo at another sample this time it's the two times
optical zoom sense of the 20 megapixel one but I've noticed that if you just
crop the 16 megapixel images so here's the 16 megapixel image of the same thing
crop it 200% and what do you know the quality looks about the same so really
not too much of a point I feel of having the second sensor personally I would
have gone with a 12 megapixel sensor with a higher bigger larger pixels and
not higher pixel density and optical image stabilization would have been a
much better way to go I feel but it can take a very decent photo in good light
you can see here plenty of details good dynamic range and overall yet still
photos fine but disappointing low-light as you'll see here because we don't have
that optical image stabilization the low-light shots not really that good so
to me the camera is hitting this it's disappointing because the low-light
performance isn't great and neither is the video because it lacked
optical image stabilization then on the other hand you can get some very nice
still shots in good light
okay so overall this is a great mobile phone I love the ROM on it it's just so
fast it's quick very smooth the UI and the best thing about it is you don't get
all that horrible bloatware and the applications you only get crammed and
forced upon us with other manufacturers I hope they keep with this there's one
of the main I believe selling points of this mobile phone it's just so fast it's
like stock Android but you've got that extra level of customization a few extra
settings in there now things I really do like about it the alert sliders great I
love that I can just flick that into silent mode and the fingerprint reader
just works so quick it just fall asleep or time for me I could literally do it
right now and have it work ten out of ten times which is great build quality
is good although oneplus decided to play it safe we don't have any renew features
no seconds loud speaker so no dual loudspeakers no wireless charging they
didn't decide to put maybe a different business display on there you know just
push the envelope a little they thought well we'll play it safe and then it's a
price it's gone up it's more expensive now had a few comments from people
asking me should I upgrade from the 3t definitely not save your cash in fact if
you're in the market for a more of a stock nexus or pixel light phone and
this is one to go for but the 3t I believe if you can get it to cheap
there's also other options out there like this show me me six which has
slightly better battery life but then you get the more bloated heavier me UI
which a lot of people won't like I prefer a stock like Android which we
have on this one but that phone is selling for around 318 US where this is
499 euros for me here and Europe at least now they're disappointing things
I've noticed that there must be some thermal throttling happening when you
game for extended periods you will see some slowdown that should not be
happening on the Snapdragon 835 so that is my review there thank you so
much for watching this if you have any comments please let me know down in the
comment section and they do hope to see you back in the channel very soon with
more up-and-coming reviews
