A painting of a magical castle.
It’s a place where creatures made of stone walk and talk, it’s a place where dangerous
plants come to life, it’s a place where castles can suddenly appear, where mystical
birds fly around, where walls come to life and where rotating islands float in the sky.
In short it’s one of these places best explored in a book or a movie, where all these majestic
creatures can be observed from a safe distance, without facing the consequences of really
standing in front of a two meter tall plant which tries to eat us.
Sadly for mario he hasn’t got the option to explore this place from a safe distance.
The power stars have been stolen and mario’s only chance to rescue his beloved damsel in
distress is by saving exactly these stars.
Seven of them are located in the magical painting of whomp’s fortress.
It’s going to be interesting to find out if a plumber from brooklyn new york, is able
to survive in a magical place.
So are you ready?
Let’s play this!
(INTRO )
The first star of whomps fortress is called chip off whomp’s block- Many of the creatures
in this painting are made out of stone.
While they don’t have much in common except for the material they are made of they all
share one thing.
They hate our plumber.
They try to push him off or do there best to crush him.
It’s almost as if cobblestone hates humanity.
But why are these stone creatures so angry?
At the top of the fortress their king lives and guards a power star and a quick chat with
him gives answers.
“It makes me so mad!
We build your houses, your castles.
We pave your roads, and still you walk all over us.
Do you ever say thank you?
No!
Well, you’re not going to wipe your feet on me!
I think I’ll crush you just for fun!
Do you have a problem with that?
Just try to pound me, wimp!
Ha!”
Hm..
I see, the cobblestone creatures have the feeling that everyone just passes over them,
this turned their heart into stone and made them hostile.
There has to be a diplomatic solution for this probl … Mario why are you attacking
the whomp king!
It looks like mario doesn’t care about diplomacy.
He just want’s to rescue the star as fast as possible.
Wow, mario is an excellent fighter and it appears as if he is able to crush the whomp
king with ease, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this rude solution to a diplomatic problem
will come back and haunt him one day.
“No!
Crushed again!
I’m just a stepping stone after all.
I won’t gravel, er ,grovel.
Here, you win.
Take this with you.”
Mario manages to rescue the first star, but there are 6 more to go and I don’t think
he made many friends in whomp’s fortress by now.
The next star is called to the top of the fortress, and the objective here is pretty
simple.
Mario has to reach the top of the fortress which magically appeared after the death of
the whomp king.
Reaching the top of the fortress is a pretty easy task, all he has to do is to dodge a
couple of furious piranha plants.
Do a little bit of platforming, and kill some more womps.
But I don’t think that the diplomatic situation between mario and the womps faction can become
any worse than it currently is.
Once he reaches the bottom of the fortress all that’s left to do for him is to platform
his way to the top, and there the second star awaits him.
Hooray!
Shoot into the blue is the next star.
If mario wants to reach this star he first needs to talk to the pink bob-omb in order
to activate the cannons.
Once inside the cannon mario’s objective becomes pretty clear.
Blast towards this power star.
Mario already has a little bit of training with these cannons from bob omb battlefield.
So let’s find out how many tries it takes him to reach the star.
Okay I give up!
I really tried, but this cannon is silly, let’s do this the easy way!
The next star is the red coins star and while mario is at it he will also collect the 100
coins as well.
The first coin is on top of this living wall, the second one on top of this thwomp, the
third behind this terrifying living plant, the fourth on this small area, number five
can be reached by riding this rotating bridge and number six is directly below it on top
of a slope.
The last two red coins are on these floating islands.
These floating islands are almost impossible to reach for mario, but luckily there is a
huge log directly in front of the islands.
This log has been standing there for eternity and never fell down.
There is probably not a lot of wind in womps fortress.
Any way mario decides to boot this log down without hesitation and shows once again the
same diplomatic prudency which he showed when facing the womps king before.
This grants him the last two red coins, and the last coins which he needed in order to
get 100.
Only two stars to go!
Fall onto the caged island is next.
Earlier mario saw this poor little power star imprisoned in a floating cage.
It’s impossible for mario to reach this star on it’s own, the only way mario would
be able to get there is if he suddenly somehow magically grew wings, but there is no wing
cap in this stage so this is no option.
Luckily an old and proud owl lives in a tree near the start of the stage.
This owl is willing to carry mario to the top of the stage and to drop him down in the
cage with the power star.
How convenient.
But wait a second, why is this owl willing to help mario?
This owl is clearly an inhabitant of whomps fortress and I don’t think mario has made
many friends in his time here.
He killed huge parts of the flora and fauna, he stole all the coins he was able to find,
he booted down parts of the painting, shot himself many times out of a cannon causing
noise disturbance and he killed the king of this place.
Why is this owl willing to help him?
Oh, my god is this a trap mario be careful this owl might try to … ouch!
Yeah that was a trap, I knew that carelessly running around and killing stuff has consequences
sooner or later.
But how is mario supposed to get this star in the cage now.
The owl is clearly no option this beast is definitely trying to get revenge on mario
for destroying it’s beautiful homeland.
But luckily mario is used to situations where the whole level is against him.
It’s time to get creative!
Maybe it’s possible to...
Hooray, only one star left!
The last star is called blast away the wall, and this star is one of the hardest to find
ones if you play the game for the first time.
If mario wants to grab this star he first needs to shoot himself out of this cannon
with self-ouching tendencies in order to get rid of this wall.
Next he has to aim the cannon perfectly so that he flies directly into the star.
If he aims a little bit too low he shoots himself into the wall and if he aims a little
bit too high he flies out of the stage.
It’s one of the toughest cannon shots in the game.
After mario’s fantastic performance with the cannon before I’m a little bit worried.
You know what let’s play a game.
I challenge every single one of you wonderful people to guess how many tries it’s going
to take mario until he manages to land in the star.
If you guess right you’ll win a like on your comment by me, and if you guess wrong
I win nothing.
Yeah let’s do this, I don’t see any way how anyone should be able to cheat this game.
So you’re ready?
Let’s find out how many tries it takes mario.
Hrhrhrhr.
It takes him only one try.
This was the last star of whomp's fortress.
-The king is dead, the painting damaged, a once peaceful owl changed into a bloodthirsty
beast, the womps still bereave their murdered bros, and for mario it’s time to go to the
cool cool mountain.
