hanging out with Ting Ting.
We are in Guangzhou, China, just across from Hong Kong,
land of Cantonese cuisine,
and we are going to look for a nice casual lunch,
and we're gonna give you guys a little update
about what's happening next on Food Ranger,
so check it out.
(light music)
Cool little market here.
What's this, chang fen?
Oh, chang fen.
Maybe we should get one of these.
Wow.
And cai.
- [Woman] Chaozhou style.
- Chaozhou style.
Looks pretty good, though.
We're gonna go see what else we can find.
One of the best things about traveling through China
is the markets.
You can really get a feel for the local area.
Sometimes it's just vegetables, and produce, and meat,
but a lot of the time you can actually find,
in and around markets, really good street food.
Look at this, we found like crispy roast pork.
Look at this huge roast pig.
Ooh.
Look at this.
Look at that.
Wow.
Look at this, we're getting a crispy,
crispy, fatty roast pig.
- Thank you. - Thank you.
This is like a whole fatty roast pig.
Oh yeah.
The skin is like so crispy on there.
(hums)
Alright, we're gonna try it out.
(hums)
Oh yeah.
Oh, that is so fatty.
And this skin is like ultra crispy.
It's like chewing through a cracker. (hums)
And the juices are actually very nice in there.
(hums)
Bye bye. - Bye.
- It's great.
That was really good and
she,
we actually came around to buy a second one
so I could get the B roll shots
for you guys, for the close ups, and she really
was so friendly
after we started chatting with her some more.
(honking) Really that is one
of the best things about traveling for food
is that you discover that everyone around the world
is really friendly.
Let's try and get some noodles.
I think this way.
Alright.
So right up here is a little wonton noodle joint,
beef brisket noodle place.
Oh, here it is.
And we're gonna get a bowl of this.
- Hello. - Hello.
- Hello. - Wow.
(laughing)
Oh, look at those wontons.
Beautiful.
This looks really kind of nice.
Good, so we're gonna get a nice bowl of wontons here.
Wow, very good.
Okay.
Okay, look at this guys.
Wow.
So we have a nice bowl
of (speaking foreign language) beef brisket.
Clear broth.
Looks like there's some onions in there.
Yeah, look at these noodles, there's like lots
of beef brisket in there, it looks quite fatty,
there's wontons on the bottom, and I think what I'm gonna
do here is just add some of this chili paste in there
because I can tell it's quite a clear flavor
and you gotta add spice.
Spice everything up that you can.
Oh yeah.
Oh, there's wontons on the bottom, little mini baby wontons.
Mix that up.
And then we're gonna have a nice little taste here.
Oh yeah.
Oh, that looks good.
(hums)
(laughs)
Let's try it out.
(hums)
Oh, that is just so,
so enjoyable.
With the chili sauce.
Oh, that's great, super, super smooth and soft
brisket here, and that beef brisket is very
actually quite fatty but super enjoyable.
There is a lot of flavor in it.
It tastes a bit more of a,
it has a bit more of a tang than a regular clear broth.
There is a definitely aroma
to this whole thing,
especially with that chili paste.
So Ting and I are just sharing this bowl
and it has been a nice time exploring around here
in Guangzhou today, we made this video to announce
our upcoming trip to Vietnam, we're gonna be there
for three weeks, it's gonna be the trip of a lifetime,
the food trip of a lifetime, I can not wait.
I haven't been back there in 11 years
since my first trip to Asia after I graduated university.
That was the trip of a lifetime.
And we did a four month trip overland with no air,
sorry, no,
yeah, no airplanes all the way from Singapore to Beijing.
And now we're going back, Ting and I,
and we're gonna go there just for food,
we're gonna shoot as much as we can,
and it's gonna be so good.
But I do need your help.
If you have any recommended locations,
whether they are cities or deep street, you know,
alleys with great food and anywhere that you think
we should go, our style for shooting and eating
is just to go and hit the street and see what we can find.
We try not to make a ton of plans beforehand,
but if you have any recommendations
we'd really love to hear that from you.
So I'm writing a blog post, you can leave a comment on there
if you have any recommended locations.
Bye bye, that was really nice.
Thank you so much for watching these food and trial videos.
I know this was just a quick little update video
for our Vietnam trip, but please let me know
on my blog post or in the comments below
exactly what you thought and where we should go in Vietnam.
Thanks a lot for watching guys.
