Today we are driving the brand new E63 S
The one Mercedes-AMG with over 600 hp, 612 hp to be precise
That power, together with 850 Nm of torque, is delivered by the 4.0 V8 Biturbo engine
We already know that engine from the Mercedes-AMG C63 and the Mercedes-AMG GT
A very powerful engine, now with +600 hp
Where is it going to stop?
In the past Mercedes-AMG was lord and master with their 6.2 V8, whát an engine
But we moved on; we already have forgotten about that famous engine
The cars of today, using a turbo engine, have become so much better
We still can enjoy a good sound, so forget about the 6.2 V8
We are now in an era where cars like this are using a four-wheel drive system
But are they tame?
Don't be afraid; the four-wheel drive system of the E63 S can be disconnected from the front axle
Which means that this car has a so-called 'Drift Mode'
100% of the power will be send to the rear wheels; I like to call it the 'Kamikaze Mode'
With 612 hp and rear-wheel drive you can perform crazy burnouts and drifting will be a piece of cake
The true AMG-driver will still be spoiled with the new E63 AMG
612 hp is only availble in the S edition, the 'normal' E63 has 571 hp and 750 Nm of torque
Not bad at all but if you have to choose the E63 S when you want that 'Drift Mode'
I first thought that this would be a way too powerful and heavy car
And someone told me before and now I can confirm; this AMG feels like it's a car to play with
It feels like a four-door racecar with five seats
It feels so playful and yet comfortable when you want
It now also has air suspension on the front, instead of only on the rear
When you select the Sport+ mode, the exhaust valves will be opened and the car will change in a monster
That 4.0 V8 Biturbo is designed as a so-called 'Hot V'
It means that the two twin-scroll turbos are placed inside the 'V'
And those turbos don't have any lag at all, they react very fast
The throttle response is incredibly fast as well and it makes the E63 S terribly fast
What a sound...
This whole package probably makes the E63 S the best car I have driven so far,
As a driver you are also given a lot of information thanks to the the big screens
They also show me cool features like a G-force meter and a laptimer for if you ever visit a circuit
Besides that we also have a leather dashboard, an alcantara steering wheel
Carbon ceramic brakes worth of €8500,-
But you need that stopping power!
And then you slow down for a corner, you step on the gas; so much traction, so much speed!
Crazy, just crazy!
The E63 S starts at €159.000,-
Take the €15.000,- Edition 1 packages and you get all the carbon details, wider sideskirts, 20 inch AMG wheels
Keep ticking the boxes and you can easily get up to €200.000,-
It's a lot of money and you can buy a lot of nice cars but...
