-It's about celebrities and our obsession with celebrities.
And obviously we have a ton of celebrities on our show.
That's our show, basically.
But why are we obsessed with celebrities?
Or what is the obsession?
-Well, the things that we do in our life to escape --
we go to ballgames or movies
or watch TV shows or listen to albums.
The celebrities are the people that star in those events.
And we like to see them in those,
and we like to see them outside of those realms,
the sort of "just like us" type of things.
Some people like to see celebrities
as president of the United States.
-Yes, yes, yes. Some people like to see that, as well.
Yeah. This is true, though.
But you do want to see -- I don't know why.
But why do you want to see a celebrity pumping gas?
-Because it makes you feel like you're similar, you have a --
you have something in common because you also pump gas.
Or you -- -I mean, I do.
I feel like Brad Pitt -- -Do you pump gas?
-Yeah, every time. -Every time?
I haven't pumped gas in five years.
Of course I have -- No, no. Yeah, no, I do it. Absolutely.
-It gets on your hands. -Oh, please. I can't do it.
-You have people for that.
-I have people for that, yes, of course.
No, I enjoy pumping gas.
But, no, I just don't know why --
-You probably could get a job doing that if this doesn't work out.
-I could. I would be great at pumping gas.
I mean, seriously. I don't even need a tip.
I'm like, "I'm doing this for fun."
But, you know, I'll be on a plane or something,
and my wife will have those magazines with all the photos in it
you know, and the gossip stuff,
and I go, "Why do you read that?"
And then I go like, "Who's getting fat?"
You know, or whatever. -I know.
-But I can't - I can't --
I read it just as much as everyone else.
-I know. You can't not. It's addictive.
-Have you ever written to a celebrity, like growing up as a kid?
-I did. I actually, um --
When I was a kid, I loved Shaun Cassidy.
-Yes! -And I had a People magazine.
He was in "The Hardy Boys,"
for people who aren't born in the Dark Ages.
[ Laughter ]
And I saw on a People magazine,
he was sitting atop his fan mail.
So I thought -- -Sitting atop. Oh, my goodness.
-I thought he read his own fan mail.
So I wrote him a letter.
I wanted him to see it, so I wrote it in glitter.
Addressed it to Shaun Cassidy, ABC Studios, Hollywood.
And it -- I got something back from his fan club.
So it actually did get to him.
That's how people in Hollywood post offices work.
-Yeah, I did not know that.
But now people just, like, kind of tweet celebrities,
and they hope for a tweet back. -They do.
-Or a retweet or they want, like --
Autographs aren't even a thing. They just want selfies.
-They do. They like selfies.
What's interesting to me
is people that take selfies at Madam Tussauds.
And they post them. It's like --
You don't care if they're actually a celebrity.
Just -- You can be a wax one. Wax is fine.
-And what celebrities are you fascinated with right now?
-I've had a long obsession with Jennifer Aniston.
I actually have a chapter in my book about her.
[ Cheers and applause ] Right? Isn't she the best?
-We love Jennifer Aniston. -We love her.
I think I related to her as Rachel,
and I was really happy when she got together with Brad Pitt.
And then when they broke up, I was devastated.
And I -- I actually went into therapy,
and my therapist said, "You look upset."
And I said, "I know this sounds crazy,
but I'm really upset about Brad and Jen breaking up."
[ Laughter ]
And she said, "You have no idea
how many of my patients have come in and said that."
-You're kidding me. Really?
-Nope. -Wow.
-We were all upset.
We should have had some kind
of a mourning group or a grieving group.
-They're happy now. -Yes.
-I mean, Jennifer's happy now. -She's totally happy.
I -- I'm -- -And so are you.
-We both are. -More importantly.
-We both got through it.
-More importantly, you both got through it.
Julie, congratulations on the book.
-Thank you. -Thank you for coming.
-Come back. Please. -Thank you so much.
Julie Klam, everybody.
