- Me.
- [Chris] This little guy, he's got his hard hat on.
He's ready for some construction.
(dramatic music)
- Good morning, everyone!
This is my bedroom right now.
We are in the process of moving from
a house that had a really nice, big huge closet,
that we could put linens in,
to a house that does not have that.
As a result, this is happening all over the house.
So, what the plan is for today,
is to build some dressers that we got at Ikea yesterday.
You can watch that vlog by clicking somewhere.
I'm sure we'll put a link somewhere,
or we'll forget.
Who knows?
What I'm gonna do now is build a huge dresser space,
right here in my bedroom.
But first all this stuff has got to go.
So,
that's better.
Yeah, that feels good, doesn't it?
Until you look this way, and then you feel terrible
because that's your bed.
Basically I had to push everything over
to this side of the room.
So that I had space to build the thing that
all this stuffs gonna to go into.
I feel okay about this mess,
for now.
(jazzy music)
I've mentioned this before on the vlog,
but, I love putting together Ikea furniture.
Look who's helping me build today.
- Me.
- [Chris] This little guy, he's got his hard hat on.
He's ready for some construction.
- Uh huh, because see.
- [Chris] Oh, yeah, what is that?
- Hammers on so I can do some 'struction.
- Some construction.
Okay, so the first step is to open this big box.
(jazzy music)
- My hat fell off.
Now let's go get the second one.
- [Chris] No, wait, wait, wait.
Come back!
- What?
- [Chris] There's two things,
we're gonna build them one at a time.
Okay, but this is only one box,
and there are three boxes for each one.
The other two are on the bed behind you.
- Woah. - So, this is box number one.
This is box number two.
That's box number three.
- Okay!
- [Chris] Can I have a construction report?
- We've been doing (crash)
Writing those things out, see.
- [Chris] Oh yes.
Look, it says don't do it by yourself,
get a helper.
Who's my helper?
- Me.
- [Chris] Yup, and be really careful with it.
And it says to build it on the box,
so that it doesn't break.
Since we've got carpet,
we don't have to worry about that as much.
- But what is this hammer for?
- [Chris] In case we need a hammer to hammer things in.
- Oh, screwdrivers,
in case we need to screwdrive them in.
Ah, and this is another screwdriver.
Sharp knife, which my dad should use.
- [Chris] Good.
- Yup. - We got all our tools?
- Yup - Should we open the next box?
- Yup.
The instructions are going to be important to receipt.
- To receipt?
- And then use.
- To review?
- To use.
- To use,
it's important to use the instructions.
Yeah, I agree.
Too many people get in trouble
thinking they know what they're doing before they do it.
- Yeah. - You gotta learn.
- (giggle) Yeah.
- Yeah.
Okay, so these are the tools that we have,
we've been given,
and all the different, this stuff.
Should we organize these out, do you think?
Would that be easier for us to do,
if we have them organized?
- Yeah.
- Let's go find something to organize them in.
(quirky music)
- [Parker] Scared.
- [Chris] Don't be scared.
So you gotta make sure that the open parts down.
- Oh no.
- [Chris] It's okay. Put the screwdriver in.
You gotta hold it square like that,
and then twist it.
Good, you did it, yeah!
You did it!
(jazzy music)
- Okay, Parker and I managed to get
the first dresser all done.
And I have a new helper for the second dresser,
this little guy.
Are you my little helper?
(coo)
Yeah.
He's taking on more of a managerial position,
so he's just sort of overseeing
the construction of this one.
I didn't think it was right to give him that little hat.
It would be really cute,
but it's not a super comfortable hat.
So, I feel like, if the kids gonna wear that hat,
they have to be able to say,
I'm uncomfortable, I don't want to wear this hat.
'Cuz then, otherwise, its just kind of mean.
Right.
Okay, I'm almost done,
I have three more drawers to make.
And then, I've gotta secure these to the wall,
after Jessica approves the final look.
But I think they look pretty cool.
- Excuse me, excuse me. - It's getting there
- Can I help you?
- [Chris] Yeah you can help me, I'd love your help.
- So now I have Parker helping me again?
- [Parker] Can I hammer?
- Yeah, I'll tell you how to do it.
You just wait for instructions.
Please don't hammer the floor.
Bailey just came up for a visit.
What have you been doing today, Bailey?
- I've been drawing my characters for Dungeons and Dragons.
I mean one character.
But I've been drawing Parker's too,
because he said he liked mine so much,
that he wanted me to do one.
- Bailey found out
that we are learning Dungeons and Dragons,
and she's very interested.
Did anybody tell you about Dungeons and Dragons?
- My babysitter.
- Grace has been telling Bailey all about
Dungeons and Dragons, because she is a fan
of Dungeons and Dragons.
Bailey drew this, which I think is her character for
Dungeons and Dragons.
- [Parker] Yes, it is.
- Tell us about this character, Bailey.
- Her name's Evie, and she's from Norway.
- [Chris] She's from Norway?
Do they grow wings in Norway?
- No, she's, uh, I think she's an angel.
She's like some kind of fairy thing with wings.
In Dungeons and Dragons,
there are different kinds of species.
- Bailey's on her way to playing Dungeons and Dragons.
I still haven't played.
I've just created a character.
I have no idea how to play the actual game.
Apparently, my character is believed to be evil.
Unjustly believed to be evil.
But my dice rolling wasn't very good
when I was creating my character,
so he's very weak.
What I lack in strength,
I make up for in character, and resolve,
and smarts.
- I thought that it would be fun to, like,
make your own strengths and weaknesses.
So I made my weakness a big imagination.
Because mine has such a big imagination,
sometimes she doesn't even know where she is.
- Sounds like someone I know.
- I am working on these new drawers
that I'm so, so, so excited about,
and thrilled that Christopher got all set up for us.
Yay!
One thing you may have noticed about us,
is that we travel a lot.
Either Christopher by himself, going to Canada,
or all five of us,
in the past,
and now six of us,
going all over the place, Canada, the east coast.
- [Chris] Going to Utah soon.
- We're going to Utah in August.
We're going to Washington, DC like a few weeks after that.
We're going camping just as a family,
because it's summer and we do that every year.
Maybe Europe, we don't know.
And basically, because we travel so much,
I have to be really, really good at
packing a family to go somewhere fast.
I am talking about, like a family of five,
we have found out the night beforehand,
that we needed to drive to Utah.
All of us.
And be packed for that.
So basically, I have this drawer full of things
that I'll need in every travel scenario
with a bunch of kids.
So I have things for warm weather, cool weather.
Things for like if we're camping,
or things for if we're in a hotel, or in a home.
So basically I have things for every travel scenario,
and I have it all in here so I can pack it fast.
These containers are Ikea organizers.
But I also have, like this cardboard thing,
is actually from my Starbucks mugs,
when I buy them, they come in these containers.
So I keep them.
They're nice and sturdy.
They look like this.
And then I also have little containers
that are from Birchbox,
and Glossybox,
that I use for this.
I love drawer organizers and dividers.
I didn't find out about them until after college,
and they've just changed my life.
I really, really like them.
So, if you've never tried to use one.
Either use like an Ikea set,
or grab some cardboard boxes like I did.
They're great, you can usually find something.
It also gave me something to do with my beautiful
Birchbox and Glossybox boxes,
because it's hard for me to throw them away.
They're so cute.
Like look at this one.
So pretty.
And they come with my monthly boxes.
That was helpful to find something to do with them.
Tell me what you guys do
with your pretty Birchbox boxes.
You guys must have some of this, right?
Like some of you guys get these boxes?
Give me more ideas, 'cuz I'm running out of drawer space.
So that's what I've been doing today.
I'm now going to put our blankets into the bigger drawer,
where I have been putting my travel stuff.
I'm also setting up,
I'm so excited about this,
setting up our changing table zone.
So I've got changing table on the dresser.
This caddie will probably go downstairs,
because I'm gonna put a dedicated baby stuff in that drawer.
So that's what I'm up to,
there's a lot of filling and organizing,
and I'm so excited to do it.
Stuff to do back here.
And then back here,
I'm gonna be, y'know, folding all the blankets
and putting them in these zones.
Which makes more sense,
they're bigger, like deeper drawers.
They should be for blankets and stuff.
So, I'm really excited.
I think this is a great change for us.
And I'm looking forward to seeing
what our bedroom will look like.
Hopefully by, either like tonight, or tomorrow.
- Hi, let's talk about what we learned today.
We learned that instructions are important to receipt.
We learned that Duncan usually takes a managerial position,
when doing construction.
And finally we learned that not all Norwegians grow wings.
Only angels and some kinds of fairies that have wings.
(guitar strum)
Thanks for watching everybody.
We'll see you next time.
(giggle)
La la la lalala la la la
(accordion music)
