Nowadays the RS5 is using a 2.9 liter V6 Biturbo engine
Unlike the 4.2 liter V8 of the previous RS5
But it's still producing 450 hp
Audi decided to keep the maximum power the same
The maximum torque however did increased to 600 Nm
The new RS5 is lighter and better but has an other purpose
The previous RS5 was a direct rival of the BMW M3, Mercedes C63 AMG and the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV
Those cars were much more dynamic than the RS5
The RS5 was too heavy in the front and couldn't keep up with what BMW, Mercedes and Alfa Romeo did better
Audi decided to make the new RS5 more like a gran turismo
Audi says they created a sport-coupé with enough power
But they don't want it to be most dynamic in the first place
Of course; it's still a fast car
But the downsizing has its effects
The naturally aspirated V8 sounded much better
With the Biturbo engine the sound became a lot less spectacular
Audi did a step back and created a comfortable, fast, elegant and daily usable car
And I think you can say that they succeeded
While driving you will notice the high quality of all the materials
It does what it does best; it's such a good looking car
A lovely design with an aggressive front
So it's not the most dynamic car, it's not the best car for a trackday
It's still a car with Quattro four wheel drive
It still sounds good, it's still fast enough
But the moment I got behind the wheel, I directly noticed that it's totally different than Mercedes and BMW
The throttle response in comfort mode is very lazy, too lazy for my taste
When driving normally I would say it feels just ok
But when driving a bit faster it just feels too slow
The steering feels very light and neutral; you don't really feel what you are doing
But then we select the dynamic mode, the exhaust valves will be opened
And then it will make a better sound!
When shifting you get a nice kick in the back, it pops on the overrun
And now I notice how easy it is to go really fast with this RS5
An untrained driver can go really fast without going over the limit
This car will never give you the feeling that you are pushing too hard
But it will also never give you the feeling that you are 100% in control
All the systems and the four wheel drive systems will keep this car on the road
And for me it makes it a bit too neutral, which is a pity
The new RS5 has a starting price of €117.000,-
Which is cheaper than the previous RS5, thanks to the combination of CO2 emission and taxes
But tick some boxes on the option list and you will reach €150.000,- very fast
But if you buy one now, you will have to wait 6-7 months because it's not directly available
But Graper Automtive already has one for sale already
With this color, Daytona Grey, it looks really good
And you can drive it tomorrow, that's the best thing about this specific model
