The UN deputy chief shared findings from her recent
visit to Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The mission – first of its kind -
was undertaken by the UN and African Union,
to highlight issues related to women, peace and development.
A UN-authorized regional protection force
began its phased deployment in Juba, South Sudan.
This was marked by the arrival of the first company of
Rwandan soldiers earlier this week.
The force will eventually number up to 4,000 troops,
to bring peace and protection to the world’s youngest nation.
The UN marked the International Day of
the World's Indigenous Peoples.
Ten years after the Declaration on the Rights of
Indigenous Peoples was adopted….
Yet more work is needed to
counter discrimination and marginalization.
The UN called for efforts to better promote and protect
the rights of indigenous peoples.
