First Lady Melania Trump’s "flood fashion" caused raised eyebrows for a second time

The former fashion model was praised by Trump supporters for wearing a trendy khaki shirt
dress and the towering heels as she boarded a helicopter alongside her husband.
The defiant First Lady appeared to be hitting back at critics who ridiculed her on Tuesday
when she wore 5in black alligator skin heels as she set off for flood-hit Corpus Christi.
While she later changed into white trainers on board Air Force One, she was mocked by
social media users and branded ‘Flood Watch Barbie’.
Yesterday, she faced similar criticism, with Vogue magazine tweeting: ‘No, Melania Trump,
you cannot wear those shoes to a flood zone.’
Again, Melania changed outfits on Air Force One, opting for a shirt, tight khaki jeans
and blue trainers topped with a green Texas baseball cap.
Trump’s advisor Kellyanne Conway blasted critics, calling the attacks ‘predictable’,
adding: ‘We should be looking at what’s in the First Lady’s heart, not what’s
on her feet. ‘She only wore stilettos on the plane, not in Texas.’
Yesterday, the President and First Lady toured Houston, America’s fourth-largest city,
which suffered 51in of rainfall after Harvey hit land nine days ago, and Lake Charles,
Louisiana, also swamped with heavy rain. The worst natural disaster in US history, Harvey
has left more than a million people displaced and has caused more than £1 billion of damage.
So far, 47 people have been confirmed dead, although officials say that number will ‘increase
significantly’ as floodwaters recede and rescuers are able to reach remote areas.
President Trump said yesterday the hurricane ‘has profoundly affected our entire nation’
and praised the ‘heroic effort’ of rescuers in the wake of the devastating storm. He was
criticised for not meeting any victims on his earlier visit to the region and for being
‘un-Presidential’ when he marvelled at the crowd size.
Last night, 50,000 people remained in temporary storm shelters.
A staggering 80 per cent of those affected don’t have flood insurance.

under his dining room table. Dozens of alligators have been reported in suburban areas, some
floating in flooded streets.
