This is the first time in how many years
since you guys had released a single?
-I think when we released a single last,
you didn´t have "The Tonight Show."
-No, I did not. -Yeah, yeah.
-It was four years ago, I think.
-There were no self-driving cars.
-There was a lot of things that didn´t happen four years ago.
-Trump was still a reality star.
[ Light laughter, scattered applause ]
-He certainly was. -President Trump. Sorry.
-Yeah, exactly. -Yeah, a lot´s changed.
-But this is -- this is a big deal.
You were great on the VMAs, by the way.
-Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
-Not only the touching tribute to Chester Bennington,
but, also, the performance from you guys.
I don´t even quite understand what I saw.
Can I just show a photo? -Yeah, yeah, sure.
-This is what I saw on television.
I was not there.
How did you do this?
-We used this new technology
that captured our heat signal, our thermal signal.
We used these cameras, these FLIR cameras --
they´re actually military cameras.
We had to get special permission to use them,
and we played, basically, in darkness.
-I was gonna say, what did the audience see?
´Cause they don´t see thermal.
-They just basically were like, "What the hell is going on?"
[ Laughter ] -Yeah, "Where?
Someone´s playing music.
It sounds good, but who´s playing it?"
-Yeah. Yeah, yeah. "These guys really suck."
[ Light laughter ] -And, no, no, no, no.
But, no -- But how did you get, like, your abs to glow?
[ Laughter ]
-Well, I´m gonna be honest.
They always glow.
-Ah! That´s -- That´s it. [ Cheers and applause ]
That´s -- That´s all you need.
Just being -- Just to be honest. Hey-oh!
But you always put on a great performance.
-Thank you.
-If you haven´t seen Thirty Seconds to Mars live,
go see them live,
because you might see something like this.
This is your entrance on to the stage in Brazil.
-[ Chuckling ] Yeah. -You zip-lined onto the stage?
[ Light laughter ] -Yeah.
-Were you freaked out at all or scared?
-No, it´s incredible. It was 100,000 people at the show.
This was three nights ago, by the way.
-Wow. -So, 100,000 people.
-Do you know where you are right now?
-No. -You´re -- You´re in New York.
-Oh, thank you. -Thank you for being here.
-Thank you, guys. [ Light laughter ]
-No, seriously, though, was that right --
100,000 people? -100,000 people.
It was our second time doing Rock in Rio,
and -- and this show is just absolutely incredible.
The Brazilians are some of the most passionate in the world,
and they have a zip line that´s set up there
for people to just go and take a ride.
And the last time we played, I saw it,
and in the middle of the set, I said,
"I have to do that. That looks amazing."
[ Light laughter ]
So I ran off the stage, and I ran up there.
The guy at the zip line was like,
"What are you doing up here?
You´re supposed to be onstage right now."
And I did it.
And it was so much fun, we had to do it again this year, so...
-I mean, that´s just -- I couldn´t even imagine.
I would be frightened.
I got married to my wife on an island.
It was a beautiful, cool wedding.
We were there for about a half hour and left.
[ Light laughter ] But the guy said,
"Hey, if you want to zip-line
into the, you know, altar or whatever,
down the aisle, you can." -Do people do this?
-I go, "No, I´m not gonna zip-line."
No. Imagine me zip-lining into, "Marry me?"
[ Both laughing ]
I could just see me falling and crashing and breaking something.
I go -- I´m not gonna zip-line. Also, it´s my wife.
My wife -- The attention should be on her.
-Yeah. -Yeah.
But I -- So, anyways, I didn´t do it,
and then my buddy was like, "Well, I´ll do it just for fun."
And he did it, and it was too slack.
-Yeah.
-And it dragged him across the rocks.
[ Laughter ] -No.
-Yeah. -Ohh.
-Yeah, it was pretty great. Anyways...
I mean, it was bad for him. But, yeah, for me, I don´t know.
[ Light laughter ]
And this made me laugh.
Hey, I love your style.
I love how I just can never predict
what you´re going to look like or wear, and you can just do it.
You can -- You can get away with this stuff.
Look at this -- the cover of "Wall Street Journal."
Look at this. Look at that guy.
[ Cheers and applause ] Now, that is --
Now, this is -- this is just you waking up in the morning
and walking out in your bathrobe.
[ Light laughter ]
And that´s what you look like, and that´s your backyard?
[ Laughter ]
Who -- Who mows this every morning?
[ Laughter ]
But you look great, brother. -Thank you.
-You can -- You can just rock that out.
I can´t pull off these styles.
