Sylvester Stallone appears on "This Is Us."
-He does. -And you worked with him before.
But how cool is it to have Sylvester Stallone come on?
-It was -- It was electric.
I mean, spending time on set with him, even when I was
27 years old filming "Balboa," he´s such an incredible artist.
But also on "Balboa," he wrote and directed and starred
and produced that film. -Yeah.
-But I just watched him.
And he would always -- whenever I would leave --
like leave a conversation with him, you know,
years after that film, he´d always say to me,
[ As Stallone ] If you need anything call me.
[ Normal voice ] And so -- And so when the producers...
Yeah, he really does talk like that.
It´s incredible. -Yeah, yeah, yeah, he does.
-He´s the best. [ As Stallone ] Hey, kiddo.
How ya doin´? How´s things? You okay?
[ Normal voice ] I´m like, "Yeah I´m great, Sly.
How are you? [ As Stallone ] Oh, you know, just writing.
[ Laughter ]
[ Normal voice ] This is how amazing he is.
When he finished, he talked to the whole crew
and he talked about appreciating the time on set
and what it means to be there, even for him in all that.
And just everyone´s, you know, applauding.
And I kind of turned around. It was one of those days where
a lot of people showed up to work
and we were filming so far out of L.A. but everybody showed up.
-Yeah, ´cause they wanna see... -The wanna see Sly.
I´m meeting people´s mothers and fathers that I´ve never met
before, but... -I just happened to be here!
Selfie? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sure, yeah. -Totally, totally.
It was one of those days, but it was electric and it was great
being back with him. -Well, congrats on all
the success of the show. I know you guys got --
You got nominated for an Emmy yourself.
-I did, yeah. -The show...
[ Cheers and applause ] -Thank you.
I didn´t win.
-Yeah, I´m sorry.
You didn´t win, but still, you got nominated.
That´s something. -I got nominated.
And I did get --
I did get a voicemail from a very good friend of mine
who thought that I had won.
-When did he leave you the voicemail?
-A week before the Emmys.
[ Laughter ]
And this is the best part. He´s an actor.
And he´s crazy talented. His name is Jeremy Luke.
He played Darryl in the last episode of "This Is Us."
He was my childhood friend.
And he and I also worked together on "Mob City."
He played -- He played Mickey Cohen.
And so a week before the Emmys, there´s the creative Emmys.
-Oh, that´s right. -Where they give a lot of awards
to a lot of the crew members and things like that.
-Yeah. -And I think he might have
misread something.
So he leaves me this heartfelt, deeply sincere message,
thinking that I won an Emmy.
[ Light laughter ]
-When you had not won an Emmy. -When I had not.
I hadn´t even not gotten it yet.
I wasn´t even there yet. It was a week away.
-What´s great about it is that we have audio
of the message that he left... -Yeah.
-...on Milo´s answering machine on his phone.
Can we listen to it right now? -Yeah, I´d love to.
-Holy [ bleep ], bro.
I know -- I know everybody´s calling you.
It´s Jeremy.
I´m calling you. I just looked it up, like,
[ bleep ] Emmy winners and your [ bleep ] name was there.
I love you, bro.
You deserve this more than anybody I know.
Holy [ bleep ].
Awesome.
[ Laughter and applause ]
-But that is like... -That´s all you want.
-But that was a week before the Emmys.
-That was a week before the Emmys.
And I get this message and that, to me, was better than anything.
-I mean come on, that´s what you want anyway when you win.
You want people to leave you those messages like,
"You deserve it, I love you, man."
-And it was real for him.
[ Light laughter ]
That was the best part. It was real for him.
Yeah. -You´re a good man, buddy.
I want to show everyone a clip.
Here´s Milo Ventimiglia in season two premiere
of "This Is Us." Take a look at this.
-And then, she just... leaves.
-Oof.
-Oof.
That´s what I get. You´re supposed to be a guy
who says things, and I get, "Oof." [ Laughs ]
-You make each other better.
You´re gonna be fine.
-Yeah, she´s gonna call.
-Of course. -Today.
-Mm-hm. -Yeah.
That phone is gonna ring,
and I´m gonna be home before tonight.
We´ve got some things to work on.
Yeah, sure, of course.
But it´s okay.
Hey, no sheets!
Sheets are for long-term guests.
I´m not a long-term guest.
-Yeah, I´m not a long-term guest.
-Yeah. -Milo Ventimiglia, everybody!
