really, bad for you.
With Hollywood being the home of the juice cleanse, and with celebs constantly sounding
off about their healthy habits, it's surprising a number of them just can't — or won't — kick
the cig-habit.
Check out who in Hollywood is still lighting up.
Hayden Panettiere
Petite actress Hayden Panettiere is probably best recognized for her roles on Nashville
and Heroes.
She's also been photographed a number of times puffing away on cigarettes, and was most recently
spotted smoking after doing a stint in rehab for postpartum depression.
Prior to heading to treatment, she tweeted to her fans: "Rather than stay stuck due to
unhealthy coping mechanisms I have chosen to take time to reflect holistically on my
health and life."
Ultimately the plan didn't involve kicking the cigarette habit, but hey: one thing at
a time.
Keira Knightley
As unusual as it might sound, Keira Knightley's smoking habit started close to home.
In an interview with Esquire, the actress revealed that her mother actually encouraged
her to pick up cigarettes.
Knightley says her mom would have her roll her cigarettes for her, and then tell her
she had to have one as well.
She's been photographed smoking both while filming, and during downtime.
Kate Winslet
Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet has been fairly open about her smoking habit,
telling Vanity Fair in 2008 that she rolls her own cigarettes and started up on the set
of Sense and Sensibility.
She also said she tries to keep her habit away from her kids, but as this shot proves,
it doesn't always happen.
"I don't smoke around my kids.
[...] Like that makes it any better that I smoke at all, because obviously it doesn't.
But I don't smoke in the house.
I mean, I had a cigarette this morning, which is because I hadn't been.
Coffee and a cigarette: bingo!"
Elijah Wood
Lord of the Rings actor Elijah Wood told Salon in 2015 that smoking is his "greatest vice."
Wood also shared with Black Book in 2011 that, as a smoker, it really bothers him when people
won't allow smoking outdoors: "Can we not let the use of free air be determined by the
people using it?
… Most spaces are smoke-free, and I accept that — particularly inside restaurants — but
can smokers not have patios and general outdoor areas?"
Gwyneth Paltrow
Despite basically dominating the world of "healthy" living, Goop-founder and actress
Gwyneth Paltrow, like her Royal Tenenbaums character Margot, still enjoys a sneaky cig
every now and then.
As she explained in a 2013 Harper's Bazaar cover story, Paltrow admits that her vice
is "My one Light American Spirit that I smoke once a week, on Saturday night."
Kit Harington
Not only does Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington smoke regularly, his habit sparked some major
show spoilers in 2015.
Harington was photographed hanging out and sharing a smoke with fellow cast members in
Belfast, heightening the buzz around rumors that his then-recently-murdered character
Jon Snow was — spoilers! — not dead after all.
Katie Holmes
In the past few years, actress Katie Holmes has been regularly photographed smoking both
off and on set.
According to a 2009 National Enquirer report, the actress has had a difficult time quitting
due to stress, which is understandable considering the crazy amount of attention she got from
her split from Tom Cruise and her new relationship with Jamie Foxx.
Jessica Alba
Like Gwyneth Paltrow, actress Jessica Alba has made a name for herself in the "healthy-living"
market as cofounder of The Honest Company, which sells "ethical" household products.
Alba is also an avid fitness fan.
And, like Gwyneth, Alba also enjoys a regular cigarette, with The Sun reporting in 2013
that her habit may have started as an attempt to keep her weight down.
Dakota Johnson
During the 2017 Met Gala, despite NYC smoking laws, a number of celebs posted smoke break
selfies from the museum's bathroom, prompting a bunch of media criticism for glamorizing
the unhealthy habit.
50 Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson was one of the stars who showed up on Rita Ora's
snapchat enjoying a smoke.
It turns out that her habit goes way back: in 2006, her mom, actress Melanie Griffith,
was spotted lighting up the then-17 year old's cigarette for her.
Daniel Radcliffe
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe not only enjoys his cigarettes, but considers himself
somewhat of a tobacco connoisseur.
The actor told Esquire he has to ship his rolling tobacco to the States from England,
explaining, "you can't get good rolling tobacco" in the U.S. calling it "dry and crappy like
you've emptied out a cigarette."
According to an interview with The Sun, Radcliffe finds it funny to shock unsuspecting strangers
with his unlikely habit, saying "I get a kick out of asking people for a light — I'm always
losing lighters.
They fumble in their pockets, look up and realise they've committed the crime of giving
Harry Potter cancer."
The long-time smoker told TMZ in 2014 that quitting wasn't on his radar …
"Dan, how's, how's quitting cigarettes going for you, man?
"I'm not quitting cigarettes!"
"Oh, you're not?"
"Don't believe everything you hear!"
