PEOPLE THERE ARE KEEPING A CLOSE

HOW THEY ARE PREPARING....

Bill: WHILE THEY'LL BE GETTING
OUT BEFORE A POTENTIAL STORM
COMES HERE---DAUPHIN ISLAND
MAYOR JEFF COLLIER SAYS
THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT
SOME VISITORS WHO REMAIN--AND
COULD BE TREATED TO THE FULL
TOPICAL DEAL.
Jeff Collier/ Mayor: Even
though we're out of the season
we still have a lot of visitors
so this will be new to them.
Bill: AND THE CITY AND PEOPLE
ARE PREPARING---IT'S JUST NOT SO
OBVIOUS.
Collier: We're doing things like
topping off
our fuel, checking our
generators, getting
equipment mobilized to different
parts of the island
bill: AS IN PAST STORMS THE
MAYOR SAID HE KNOWS THERE ARE
SOME SPOTS THAT ALWAYS SEE
PROBLEMS--MOSTL Y FLOODING. HE'S
ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO MOVE CARS
FROM PROBLEM SPOTS
AND TIE DOWN BOATS AS BEST
THEY CAN---PARTICULARL Y HERE.
Bill: Mayor collier says with
just about
any storm he's always concerned
about the
west end of dauphin island
which typically
gets beaten up pretty good.
Collier: So we encourage those
people to be extra
vigilant--moving their
vehicles out of low- lying
areas, those sorts of things.
Bill: AND THE MAYOR SAID
THEY'LL ALSO BE KEEPING AN EYE
ON HOW SURGE FROM THE STORM
AFFECTS THE SAND BERMS THAT HELP
