Reports of such cases have come out of Taiwan, China, Japan, Canada, and other nations, indicating
the issue is not isolated to a specific region that may have received faulty handsets.
In a statement, Apple said it was aware of the reports and was looking into what might
have caused the defect.
It is yet to be seen if the problem could mirror that of rival Samsung's Note 7 debacle,
which led to the phones being recalled and discontinued.
