as we mentioned, narrowly defeated republican Roy Moore
to win an open senate seat in Alabama last night.
According to exit polls, 72% of white men
and 63% of white women voted for Moore...
while 98% of black women voted for Jones.
Here to comment is one of our writers.
Amber Ruffin, everybody!
[ Cheers and applause ]
-Thanks! Thanks, Seth!
Now, as a black woman, I just have two things
I want to say about last night's election.
You're...welcome!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Whoo!
Now, while all of America was on the edge of their seats
waiting to see if an accused pedophile
would get into the United States Senate,
98% of black women in Alabama voted for the other guy
because, as my dad says,
black women laugh and joke, but we don't play.
And the women who saved us last night
weren't just regular black women.
They were black women in Alabama.
Do you know what they have to go through every day?
Those women woke up yesterday and were like,
"I got to deal with systemic racism,
the gender pay gap,
the school-to-prison pipeline, humidity,
and now y'all want me to save America?!
And on my way there,
I have to walk by like 18 Confederate statues?!
[ Sighs ] All right."
Roy Moore was a well-known anti-gay, anti-Muslim,
racist pedophile.
Allegedly.
[ Laughter ]
Here's how white women responded to him.
-Was there ever a moment
when you questioned your support for Roy Moore?
-No.
-And this is how black women responded to him.
[ Cheers and applause ]
P.S. -- you know that's why Omarosa got fired today.
Trump was like, "You promised me the black-lady vote!"
And she was probably like, "I don't know any!'
So not only did we get rid of Roy Moore,
we got rid of Omarosa!
In one night! Whoo!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Hey. What did you do last night? Watch "The Voice"?
Now, white people, I invite you
to look upon our example and steal it.
It's called appropriating, and it should be easy for you
because you do it all the time!
So while you're busy appropriating our music
and our fashion and our big fat booties,
try appropriating our common sense.
Stop trying to rap
and try getting up on a Tuesday to go vote.
I woke up this morning
and saw the phrase "black women" was trending on Twitter,
so of course my first thought was,
"Oh, God, are we illegal now?"
So I immediately checked to make sure
the next topic wasn't #RoundThemUp.
But...
[ Laughter ]
It wasn't.
But it turns out it was trending because everyone was writing,
"Thank you, black women."
And that is cool.
But when you're done thanking us,
why don't you try voting for us
and putting a few of us in office
so we can run this [bleep]?!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Aaah! Aaah!
Whoo!
[ Cheers and applause ]
I just -- I just --
I just was like, "Yay, black women!"
And friggin' 300 white people are like, "Yeaaaah!"
What a world!
You -- [ Laughs ]
You know what?
Black women should be running everything.
Can you think of a single reason why we shouldn't be in charge?
-No.
-That's what I thought. Back to you, Seth!
[ Cheers and applause ]
-Back to you, Amber. Let it go to your head!
You let that go to your head!
