Digital Drugs - Mind Field S2

Is there a way to experience
the effects of psychedelic drugs
without having to ingest anything
or risk jail time?
Well, there are digital drugs,
audio and visual files that claim to be able to induce
some of the feelings or effects of psychedelic drugs.
They're incredibly popular, so I decided to try them myself.
I can't help but notice one of these folders
is called "Dangerous Doses,"
and inside we've got an audio file
called "BathSalts.mp3," "Krokodil.mp3."
I'm gonna listen to that one.
Krokodil is an opiate similar to heroin.
[high-pitched droning music]
I, uh...
It's just a drone like a... "uhhhhaaah."
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
This is pretty disconcerting.
It's like two notes that don't go together.
It's like someone hit a hollow pipe,
and it won't stop ringing.
Despite how cool the sounds are,
I'm not getting a lot out of it,
but the fact that it's an audio file.
I'm hearing stuff,
but I'm having to put a lot in to get things out,
visuals and memories and thoughts.
What I want to move on to, though,
is a folder with a much scarier name.
"Recreational Doses Extreme."
Inside this folder is an audio file
called "Ayahuasca.mp3."
I'll take a little audio dose of this digital drug,
and then after I actually take ayahuasca,
I'll see how they compare.

[music buzzes]
Whoa! Hold on. Okay.
This song changes near the end.
I want to listen to this change.
[scratchy, distorted tones]
Okay.
What this told me about ayahuasca
is that it is peaceful, it is warm,
it is there for you, and then it's just like, boom!
And all of a sudden, you're not welcome anymore.
I don't know if that's what I'll experience.
But that's why I'm going to Peru.
