-And happy belated 21st birthday.
-Thank you. -You're 21!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Wow. -Thank you.
-This is a big deal. 21's big.
-The big one. -Yeah.
What did -- How'd you celebrate?
-My friends and family actually surprised me
with a beautiful dinner.
It was pretty low key.
-Oh, yeah? -But I enjoyed it.
-Did you have a beverage? -I did.
[ Laughter ] -You did?
-I sure did.
I actually was pretty pumped about ordering one,
and I got the drink menu, and I looked at it
and I had no idea what to order.
I didn't really know what any of it was.
-No, yeah. -But, yeah,
I left it to my family to order me a drink, and --
-What was it?
-It was a Moscow mule.
-Hey. [ Cheers ]
That's a great one. -Yeah, right?
-Did it come in a copper mug?
-It did. -Yeah!
You got a real one, man. -Yeah.
-That's great. -Thanks.
-I remember one of my -- one of my first beverages --
I want to say I was probably 13.
No, I'm just kidding. [ Laughter ]
No, I was 21 of course,
and I remember I had no idea what to order either.
-Right? -'Cause I didn't know anything.
But I went in with my friends
and we were looking at this bar menu
and I was trying to act all cool, and I'm like,
"Can I have three Swamp Things?"
And the guy's like, "You want three Swamp Things?"
I was like, "Yeah, yeah, that's cool. Yeah, three."
It was me and my two friends, so we get three Swamp Things.
I get it, and it's a giant bowl with like 20 straws in each --
[ Laughter ] -Really?
-In each Swamp Thing. Yeah. -Oh, wow.
-It had a flame in the middle of it.
-Amazing. [ Laughter ]
-I was like, "I'm such an idiot. We're never gonna finish these."
Man, it was ridiculous. It was fun, though.
The first time I think I heard you sing was "Pitch Perfect 2."
Is that possible? -That is correct.
-And man, oh, man, did you take off from there.
-Thank you, I know. -I mean, how fun?
[ Cheers and applause ] -So crazy that it happened.
You know, music has always been part of my plan,
and it's always been something I've wanted to explore.
And I kind of secretly wanted it to happen through a movie
so that it would make sense, because I had been
making a lot of movies at the time.
So "Pitch Perfect 2" happened,
and now of course, there's number three.
-Yeah. -Which I'm very excited about.
[ Cheers and applause ]
-And but I mean, you're just making those great records.
I mean, these platinum hits. -Thank you.
-"Love Myself," and it's all great stuff.
I mean, I just -- I'm so psyched for you.
I'm so proud of you, and I know --
I'm proud of you but I've known you for a while now.
-You have. -Yeah.
Didn't you meet your producer on your album here?
-I sure did.
So I actually, last time I was here,
I met Ryan Tedder backstage.
And it was really cool -- -OneRepublic.
-OneRepublic. Huge fan.
And I met him, and it was a real sort of --
I mean, I spent the three minutes
of our introduction fangirling.
And he was really cool, but on his way out he was like,
"Let me know if you need anything.
Give me a call. You know, whatever. I'm here."
And I was like, "Pssh, totally gonna call you."
[ Laughter ]
And then he walked out and I was like,
that felt like the equivalent of like people in L.A. being like,
"Let's grab coffee" or "Let's do lunch."
-And you never see them again. [ Laughter ]
Here's my number, it's 555-5555. -Exactly.
But I actually ended up giving him a call,
and he produced my song "Most Girls,"
and we've done some other things since.
-I mean, come on. [ Cheers and applause ]
-Thank you. -No, I'm happy for you.
This is -- you're so talented.
Do you still, like, flip out when it plays somewhere?
Like you hear it on the radio or something?
-Every time. Every time.
It does not get old. -Right?
-In fact, it's very -- it's a little bit --
I mean, it's really cool when I'm in the car
and I'm listening to the radio and it comes on.
But when I'm, like, out in public --
I recently was shopping and I was in a dressing room,
and "Most Girls" came on.
And it was very weird because I was, you know,
in a dressing room behind the curtain
and I kind of, like, squealed.
[ Laughter ]
And the girl asked me if I needed --
if something was wrong. And nothing was wrong.
It was just the song came on, and I was freaking out.
Yeah, no, it's all good. -"I just like this song.
It's all good." -Yeah.
-But it's absolutely crazy. In fact, the other day,
I heard "Let Me Go" for the first time on Z100
and I was actually on the phone with Watt,
who is on the record. -On the record, yeah.
-And I literally was screaming on the phone.
I'm like, "It's on the radio! It's on the radio!"
And I held my phone up the entire song,
as if he's never heard it before.
-On Z100 -- yeah, yeah.
He's like, "I heard that before."
But on Z100. -On Z100!
-Yes, it's the best thing.
I'm so happy for you. -It is, thank you.
-Tell me about "Pitch Perfect 3."
What's happening this time?
-So, "Pitch Perfect 3," it's a little bittersweet.
-Yeah, because this is the last one.
-This is the farewell.
This whole movie is basically the journey of the girls
sort of finding out how they can
have their real last performance together.
So that's what it is. -Oh, man.
And -- it's just -- it's good. [ Applause ]
So, you're auditioning.
You're trying out because you're opening for who?
In the movie?
-Well, we're on this USO Tour. -Yep.
-And of course, it's "Pitch Perfect,"
so there's always a competition.
And if you win the competition, you go on tour with DJ Khaled.
-There you go. I mean that -- that's -- yeah.
-So, yes. That happens.
-So we might see -- all right, good yeah.
And I want to show a clip here.
Here's Hailee Steinfeld in "Pitch Perfect 3."
Take a look at this.
-All right, ladies, pick up your...
We're going out. -What do you mean, going out?
-What do you mean, what do I mean?
We just sucked... in front of DJ Khaled.
-Huh? -Listening.
-He's staying at that fancy casino hotel across the street.
Okay, I say we all get up, we get dressed, we go over there,
and we show him that we are not a joke.
-Emily, I can't believe
that a half-decent idea came out of your dumb mouth.
-Thank you. -Okay, so let's get tarted up --
-"Tatted"? -Tarted.
-It sounds like tatted up. -Tarted up.
She's a caramel tart. She's a chocolate tart.
You're the vanilla tart.
-Thanks, babe.
-[ Groans ]
-Oh, tarted. -Oh, tarted.
[ Cheers and applause ] -Hailee Steinfeld, everybody!
