Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. We feel that it's our duty but it's also
our privilege to serve these folks. It's crucial that people from every
background, students from more affluent and more underserved areas, have access
to oral healthcare. Unfortunately, a lot of children do not have dental insurance
from their family and they cannot afford to go to see the dentist; so,
unfortunately, what happens is the children sit in the nurse's station or
they they don't come to school because they're in such pain, so we have
school dental medicine and we take Medicaid. Give Kids a Smile is a
nationwide program where children across America are seen today at no cost to
take care of their dental needs. I think it's extremely important at a young age
to have a good experience at the dentist. I actually am playing the role of the
tooth fairy. It's really exciting to see how they react to it and see that we're
actually really nice people and if there's nothing to be afraid of. Our
ultimate goal is for them to have a dental home in other words a place that
they can go for regular dental check-ups and prevention so that we can either
prevent cavities, stop cavities while they're small, and prevent them from
having to go to the emergency room or possibly the operating room. We're a health
care provider, we care about all people, and I feel that we have an obligation to
help the people around us.
