In today's video we will be talking about Netflix's new documentary series called
the "Flint Town", which is based on the lives of the police officers and the regular
folks in the mist of the economic, political and a water crisis.
Be warned there might be some spoilers ahead.
So, the documentary starts in the Flint Town, a city in Michigan which has deeply been impacted
by the crash of the automotive giants.
Crime is at all time high.
The police force has been nearly cut to 1/3 of what it used to be.
And to top it all there is a water crisis.
began in 2014 when the drinking water source for the city of Flint, Michigan was changed
to the Flint River.
Due to insufficient water treatment, over 100,000 residents were potentially exposed
to high levels of lead in the drinking water.
So, people in Flint literally have to meet at a point every day to pick up their daily
water ration.
It is mind blowing.
What I absolutely loved about this documentary is that it showed the reality through different
perspective.
For the people, they are pissed.
They don't trust the government and the system, and of course the police.
As far as they are concerned, rest of the country has forgotten them.
But we also get to see how the people in uniform goes through, what drives them.
Lately, law enforcement has been under tremendous scrutiny in US.
In this documentary, we see what really goes on when they are patrolling the streets.
After watching this video, I absolutely believe that the people who joins the forces, do it
for a greater cause and have to go through tremendous sacrifice.
Some of the officers are overworked and underpaid, to put their lives on the line everyday.
I loved how they documentary showed the human side of everyone.
Their dreams, fears, sorrow.
There is a scene, where one of the main characters just hears that his mom has just passed away
and he goes on to finish his shift.
The documentary also shows, the reality from a citizen's perspective.
Their lives, their fears.
What was once a place for everyone around the country and world to come and build a
better life, is not very much a ghost town.
There are neighbourhoods where crimes are being committed and sometimes it takes days
for the police to follow-up, since they are so short in resources.
It talks about how the water crisis is affecting them, and how the current political factor
is playing a key role to perhaps further dividing the town.
In the end the first season was captivating and successful to draw a very realistic picture
of what is happening to this small town in America.
The real-life characters and their stories have been told in a way, so you feel connected
to every individual and understand where they are coming from.
They did end with a few unanswered questions, and I do hope they come out with season 2.
