You know generally when there's a review about a book turned movie
I usually say
and no I haven't read the book
I've not read the books
I have never read the book
It's just safe to assume I don't read
Well hold onto your dicks ladies and gentlemen
because I've read this one
Ready Player One directed by Steven Spielberg
woah that's a big one
tells the tale of Wade Watts and his friends
as they hunt for an easter egg in the
ultimate virtual reality experience, The Oasis
I just
I just realised that this movie is coming out on Easter weekend
Now this easter egg isn't filled with some random chocolates or
that $5 dollar bill that your cousin always finds
No
If you get this easter egg you get control of The Oasis
which would be equivalent right now to if you got control of like
I dunno
The whole internet
This film is filled with all the nostalgia, all the references
It's like I was inside a tornado of comic book stores
with just all the merch and swag punching me right in the face
I ain't mad at that
I'm a super super geek
I grew up reading Spiderman, X-Men
watching Trek and Wars
I went as Einstein for Halloween when I was 5
I go to comic book conventions
I'm a half-elf rogue in my D&D group
I have an unnecessary quantity of vinyl figures and nerdy t-shirts
and I once adopted a british ascent beacuse I just watched way too much Doctor Who.
The only reason I'm explaining all of this to you
is because the most geeky thing you can do is explain in great detail
how geeky you are

If you've read the book this isn't exactly the book
but that's okay because it still feels like it comes from that world
It's exactly what I was expecting which is a Steven Spielberg thrill ride
with all the nerdy stuff my friends and I can discuss for probably way too long
and then like buy the blu-ray and go frame by frame
and look for all the things that we can judge each other on knowing or not
you know just basic
geek fanboy stuff
