for our 5th annual T-Minus event.
The value of placing students in
a compressed time period project
of this nature is that they
learn how things happen
on the outside.
They learn the lessons of
collaboration
and developing a design solution
to a problem
in the community
or in the world in some way,
and they're exposed to
the real parameters associated
with any professional project.
>> This is my first real
exposure to it, and they just
throw you right into the mix
of it.
>> I can experience doing a
team project, so I think it's a
great thing to
give everyone a sense of,
"I'm actually a part of this
I.D. community."
>> Our inspiration is Wendell Castle.
I think the strongest part
of his inspiration is actually
the fact that he pushes the
material he uses.
He likes to plant the seed of
like, a chair or a bench,
and then watch it grow.
And eventually the flower
is the bench.
So rather than using his process,
we decided to use where he
comes from.
And I feel like that really
helped us.
>> And with projects like this,
and what design does,
is it gives everybody the
opportunity to realize the
impact of one object
on the rest of the world.
For me, the value of design
is knowing that something can
be beautiful and functional.
The whole world is design.
>> It's like a really cool
experience to see where we've
grown, from what we had
to where we are now.
