Greetings Gents! I'm Geofatboy for
ShaveNation.com Today's review is a shaving cream -Taylor of Old Bond Street
Sandalwood Shaving Cream. It's probably my all-time favorite shaving cream. I
used it in my first shaving video back about seven or eight years ago and since
then coincidence I guess I think it is the most popular shaving cream sold
today! I'm going to show you how to use it and tell you a little bit about it.
I wasn't sure what sandalwood was I thought it was some wood that you just
pick up on the beach as you're walking along, but I did a little research and
I'll give you some background on it. Sandalwood is a class of woods from slow
growing trees in the genus-- Santalum: S-A-N-T-A-L-U-M. The woods are heavy yellow
and fine grained, and unlike many other aromatic woods they retain their
fragrance for decades, which is pretty cool! Sandalwood oil is extracted from
the woods for use. Sandalwood is the second most expensive wood in the world.
Care to venture a guess on the first? It's African Blackwood. Both the wood and the
oil produce a distinctive fragrance that has been highly valued for centuries. It
is found in: India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, Indonesia,
and Hawaii. It's in a lot of different places! I'll show you how to use it. It
comes in a tub with a screw cap. Just unscrew it and it's got a little plastic
sealer in here that helps keep it fresh. Here's a look at the inside of it. Now
this is a bowl I've been using for a while and here's a brand new bowl, just
so you can see how it comes filled up like that, and the scent is just amazing!
It's one of my favorite scents. I really like the smell of this sandalwood. In my
opinion it's a little bit stronger than most, but that's why I like it! This
shaving cream provides a really nice cushion for the blade to glide across
it's very easy to lather, and again that scent it's just amazing!
So if you don't have a brush what you want to do is wet your face - hot water.
Just take your finger, scoop out about an almond sized amount like that put it
right in your hands rub it together like so and then just apply it to your face
and work it in and you can mix it into a lather. If you rub your hands together
that even helps more It gives you more than enough for a nice shave right there.
If you have a brush, even better in my opinion a shaving brush really adds to
the whole shaving experience, and it's an important factor in the shave. Wet the
brush under the warm water or you can soak it in a cup like this, and then just
take it out and shake off the bulk of the water like that. Then just swirl that
directly into the tub, what you want to do is just wet those tips up like that
and then just go directly to the face and start lathering.
And you can add a little bit of water as you go along. You don't want to add
too much water because you'll drown it out, so just a couple of drops. Two
fingers on the brush under the nose.
Figure 8 method... and that gives you a really nice lather to shave with. If you
want to use a shaving bowl just take the brush and wet the tips again and then go
directly to your bowl and start lathering like this, and this you can
build a thicker lather, you can see that it starts coming up around the edges
just drive that back down into the middle and just keep swirling and in 30
seconds you've already got a really nice lather, you can see that right there. If you
want to add just a touch of water, just a little bit. Swirl some more. You
can make an Über Lather! Look at that very nice you get some really nice peaks
of lather. This is more than enough lather for two or three passes of
shaving. If you want to get more lather off of the brush you just squeeze it
like this and you have tons of lather right there.
One other method with the bowl is to take your finger - just scoop out a bit
and place it down into the depression at the bottom of the bowl. This is the Shave
Nation Shaving Lather Bowl. Just drop it down in there, like so and then just
lather up.
After a few seconds you're already building up some nice lather that way. So
that was just a few different methods of how to lather the Taylor of Old Bond
Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream. If you have your own special way to do it just
comment below, let us know so we can try it out as well. Oh - if you want to pick up
