vitamin E oil,
kosher salt and lime essential oil.
You'll mix all of that in a little mixing bowl.
You'll need measuring spoons and a Pyrex cup. And finally you need a glass jar.
The first thing you want to do to make the scrub is melt
three-quarters of a cup of coconut oil in the microwave. You'll see that coconut oil is actually super, super stiff. It
sets up at room temperature for sure. It has a melting point of 76 degrees.
So you'll need to scoop it out into a Pyrex container or something you can put in the microwave.
And we just microwaved this for 30 seconds, in 10 second intervals. It might take a different amount of time depending on your microwave.
But you can see it's a nice oil consistency now, and it smells amazing. And what we're going to do is
pour that into our mixing bowl. And it's about 3/4 of a cup. It doesn't need to be exact for this project. And
now we want to add two cups of sea salt, or kosher salt, which whichever you prefer. Either one will work. And
we're just going to use our quarter cup here and do two cups.
And one more. And
that's our two cups of our sea salt, or kosher salt. And
now we're going to add three tablespoons of our vitamin E oil. And vitamin E
oil is something that you can just get at the drugstore
that's a really nice
oil to use in spa crafts like this. So that's one tablespoon...
two...
and three. And I'm going to go ahead and stir that up before I add my essential oil.
And I'm just going to use the measuring spoon to stir it because it's already
got some oil on it, so I might as well. And
because coconut oil sets up at room temperature, you might worry about it setting up a little bit in your jar and
when you when you give it as a gift or or whatever?
Don't worry about that. As soon as it touches your skin your skin is warmer
so it will it will melt as soon as it touches skin.
And now I'm going to add in some lime
essential oil. You want to be sure to use essential oil because it's going to touch the skin.
I'm going to do about 10 drops to start,
because I want to smell it after that to make sure it doesn't overwhelm the smell of our coconut.
That's ten.
Stir that in. Oh this smells so amazing! And
coconut and lime just go absolutely perfectly together.
It actually smells like the Caribbean.
And that smells pretty good,
but I think I'm going to add just a little bit more lime so that it matches the level of the scent of that coconut.
So I added about five more drops.
Stir that in. And that
smells fantastic.
So now what I want to do is decant this into our little jar. And
we picked this little jar that's glass because we'd like to be able to see our
foot scrub in it.
The jar we picked has a wide mouth because you want to be able to reach in and scoop the foot scrub out
with your hands or with the spoon.
I'm going to keep filling this up till it gets to a little bit under that lid line.
You don't want it so full that the gasket from the lid
pushes down on it and it spills out.
And one more.
That seems about right.
And I'm going to wipe or I got a little bit on the side and put my lid on.
And if you want you could be done now, but we like to add a little special touch. And we'll show you that next.
We like to decorate our little jars when we give spa crafts as gifts,
so what we did is we designed a cute little label...
coconut-lime foot scrub...with a little bit of art behind it. And you can download this on our website RunningWithSisters.com.
What I'm going to do is cut this out
using my little handy dandy scissors here. And I actually already have one cut out here,
so we use that one because that's faster than watching me cut it out. If we use this with the
tape on the lid, it might get oily from the oil that's in our foot scrub, so we're gonna do a little cheat with fake
laminating. We're gonna laminate it with packing tape! So what I'm gonna do is pull a piece of packing tape off,
and I'm going to lay it face up on my work surface here.
Like that. And this packing tape is a little bit narrower than
our label, but it doesn't matter. What I'm going to do is put my label face-down on
the packing tape so that almost all of it is on there.
But I want to make sure I've got a little bit of a lip here on
this side. And then what I'm going to do is put some more packing tape for that other part of the
label.
So I'll do it the same way here, put this down. And now
what I'm going to do is just lift this up and make sure it overlaps a little bit
and set that down and
rub that down a little bit.
And you'll see now the whole thing is covered on the front. And I'm gonna put packing tape on the back
again just making sure that the whole thing is covered.
Just overlap it a little bit like that. And
then I'm going to burnish the front of it down a little bit, especially around the edges.
And I'm just going to use my fingernail to do that. And what that does is it's going to create a nice seal around our
label and
that way it none of the oil from our foot scrub will come and seep in through the edges of our label.
Do that all the way around, like that. And I'm also going to do it a little bit on top of my
label so there aren't any bubbles.
And then I'll just cut that out. And I'm going to leave a little bit of a lip, not too much.
Just a tiny little lip all the way around the edge, like that.
There we go.
And there you can see this is nicely laminated now, and we're just going to use
double-sided permanent tape on the back of our label
to stick it on to the lid of our jar.
And
then I can just stick that right in the center of my jar and there's our Coconut Lime Foot Scrub.
