talking about today and we are starting right now. Hey everyone, welcome back to
my channel. I'm Karin Carr, a Realtor® in Savannah, Georgia with Keller Williams. If
this is your first time here and you are interested in real estate in the Savannah
area be sure to subscribe and hit the little bell so that you don't miss
anything. So let's talk about trying to keep your house clean when you're
selling it. This is the worst thing about selling your house in my opinion. Worse
than packing, worse than finding the replacement home, it's having to keep
your house spotless every day while you're still living there. It is not easy
and if you have kids and pets it's like trying to climb Mount Everest right now
wearing flip-flops. There are a couple of things that are just not negotiable.
You've got to do it every day. You've got to wash the dishes and make
sure there are no dirty dishes in the sink. You've got to pick up all the dirty
clothes put them in the laundry hamper. And for crying out loud - flush! 'Nuff said.
So there are a couple of tools that I like to use and recommend to my clients
that definitely will make your life easier. The first thing is wipes.
Whether you use Clorox or Lysol wipes or whether you make your own with a more
natural set of ingredients, keeping a stash of these under every sink makes
your life so much easier. Every morning before you leave the house grab a wipe,
wipe down the counter, throw it in the trash, boom. Not only is the counter all
nice and clean but it makes it smell good too. Number two are Magic Erasers. How did
I ever live before these things were invented?
Seriously they get everything off - scuff marks off of the walls, marks on the
baseboards, dog slobber, and if you've got a great big dog like I do that dog
slobbers a lot. Magic Erasers work on just about anything. I like to buy them
in bulk off of Amazon. If you just Google "melamine foam" you can buy them by the
case for... you know, 1/18th of the price. (Really? There's a fly in here?) Next, go a
little excessive with the welcome mats. You can have one outside the front door
and then have one right inside the front door as well. This will help keep
your floors so much cleaner because you're not constantly tracking stuff in
from outside. So wipe your feet on the outside, wipe your feet again on the
inside, and hopefully your buyers will do the same when they come to see the house.
Number four - use paper plates and plastic silverware. Seriously, when I came up
with that one I was saying it as a joke! But then the more I thought about it the
more practical it was. If you use disposable stuff, while maybe not the
most environmentally friendly option out there, you wouldn't have to be doing
dishes three times a day. Certainly can't hurt! Tip number five is to keep big
wicker baskets around. If you keep a wicker basket in your living room, for
example, at the end of the day when stuff just tends to accumulate throw
everything in the wicker basket and take it with you as your head upstairs. If
you're super organized you could have a different color basket for each member
of your family. All the stuff goes in their baskets and then they are
responsible for putting it all away. Good luck with that. Number six - if you don't
make the mess you don't have to clean it up. Easier said than done, I know. But just
try to remember... whenever you take something out put it back immediately.
That will help keep your house so much cleaner while it's for sale so you're
not having to spend an hour or everyday scrubbing the house. And last
but not least, if all else fails have a hiding spot . Find a place where you can
stash stuff. Again, last minute showings... people call and say, "Can we come in 45
minutes?" Happens all the time. The house isn't ready but what do you want to do?
Do you want to say no or do you want to accommodate the showing because that
might be the buyer that writes full price offer on your house? So find a
place where you can stash stuff, whether it's under the bed or in a laundry
basket or in a cupboard that nobody will ever open. Find a place where you can
just shove things at the last minute to hide it just for the showing. Again,
baskets are a good way to help with that. Throw everything in the basket, stick it
in the closet, and when they look and they see baskets in the closet they
think, "Wow, they are so organized!" Shh, I won't tell if you don't.
