I'm showing you how to make
Spicy Cilantro-Lime Shrimp Tacos
These tacos are easy to make
and boy do they pack a punch of flavor!
If you're sensitive to spice, don't worry
you can definitely control the heat level in this dish
To start we'll make a quick marinade
You'll need the juice of 2 limes
so about 4 tablespoons
1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup of freshly chopped cilantro
1 minced serrano pepper
and this is where you can control the heat level a little bit
1/4 teaspoon of salt
and 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes
and once again control that to control your heat
Whisk it together
Now we're going to use this sauce for
two different items in our tacos
We're going to use it on our shrimp itself
as well as on a slaw that will go on top
You want 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of shrimp
and I have that here in my bowl
and you notice I have the tails removed
We're going to pour on about 2 tablespoons of this marinade
Get a little bit there
as well as 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika
which will give this some color
and toss it together
I also like the smokiness that the smoked paprika
gives the shrimp as well
Now you can let this marinate
but today I'm going to head straight to cooking
Get a large heavy skillet heating on the stove
over medium high heat
We're going to dump that directly into the skillet
and cook the shrimp until it's pink and cooked through
It'll only take about 3 to 5 minutes of cooking
to cook the shrimp all the way through
Shrimp is really easy to cook
You know it's done when it is no longer translucent
and it gets a white and pink color to it
Remove it from the heat and set it aside
You can use a little bit more of the cilantro-lime sauce
if you want on your shrimp once it is cooked
and we're going to pour the rest over
some shredded cabbage
You'll need about 2 cups
Pour that right over the cabbage
Then I like to add 1/4 cup more of freshly chopped cilantro
And 2 tablespoons of sour cream
to give it a little bit of creaminess
And toss this all together
Season your slaw with a little more salt and pepper to taste
and that's it!
We're ready to compile our tacos
You can use either corn or flour tortillas for this
depending on personal preference
Start by scooping on some of that delicious shrimp
and I like to load it up
You don't skimp on the shrimp.
Next we're going to load it up with the slaw
Just pile that right on
Finish it off with a little bit of queso fresco
and some red onions for garnish
You can use regular red onions
but I like to use pickled red onions because
they add that extra little bite
