going to show you everything you need to know to make this beautiful knit shawl
called the Marissa this bottom-up construction half circle shawl is
fringed with beautiful Crescent motifs and works up quickly with easing lace
this is a spectacularly fun and festive use of color work and lace in a knit sha
it's one of the 17 join as you go motif projects in my new book Motif Magic in
the first video I'll show you how to navigate the pattern I'll show you all
of the stitches you'll need to know and how to read the different components of
the pattern then in the next video I'll show you how to make these beautiful
motif medallions you knit each one separately and you'll also be learning
how to do a picot bind off in that video in the next video I'll show you how to
pick up and knit the end of the motifs to join them into the edging of the
shawl and work this beautiful and simple lace stitch pattern from the bottom up
and then in the last video I'll show you how to block this beautiful shawl in
Wrapture all-natural delicate wash make sure you watch all the videos to learn
everything you'll need to know to make this beautiful project to make one of
these motifs for the fringe of our Marisa shawl we're going to start with a
slip knot and leave yourself enough of a tail to cast on seven stitches we're
gonna count that slip knot as our first stitch and then with long tail cast on
cast on six more stitches for a total of seven
okay so we have sit so we have seven stitches cast on row one is to knit into
the front and back of each stitch across meaning we're going to increase from
seven stitches to fourteen on this row so to knit into the front and back of
the stitch we're going to insert to knit into the front loop of the stitch and
then before removing that stitch off the left hand needle we're going to knit
into the back of it as well so now that we have two stitches on our right hand
needle both worked into the different sides of the loop on the left hand
needle now we can slide the stitch off the left hand needle I'll do that again
this is what the end of Row 1 should look like and you should have 14
stitches on your needle I'm going to turn our work on row 2 we're going to
repeat the same thing we're going to knit into the front and back of each
stitch on the needles which means we're going to increase from 14 stitches to 28
on this row this is what the end of Row 2 should look like
you should have 28 stitches on your needles Row 3 is to knit across so we're
just going to work even knitting one stitch into each stitch super easy just
knit across for Row 3 this is what the end of Row 3 should look like for rows 4
through 12 you want to repeat Row 3 the first repeat for picot bind off begins
with a knit cast on three stitches and bind off 6 so we're going to insert our
needle into the first stitch as if to knit it but we're going to take that new
loop and place it on the left hand needle and do that for a total of 3
times because we're knit casting on three stitches ok so now we're going to
bind off 6 remember you knit two stitches to bind off the first one knit
one more to bind off to get one more to bind off 3 knit one more to bind off
four knit one more to bind off 5 and knit one more to bind off 6 the reason
why I say it in such a strange way is to help me remember and maybe help you
remember as well that you don't count the first stitch when you're binding off
and it's really important when you're binding off in the middle of a row is to
make sure you're counting your stitches properly so remember that first stitch
doesn't count as a bound off stitch so now we're going to slip this back
to our left hand needle to begin our repeat again remember the repeat is to
knit cast on three and bind off six so will now insert our needle to knit cast
on three stitches and bind off six knit two to bind off the first one knit
another one to bind off two knit one to bind off three knit one to bind off four
knit one to bind off five and knit one deveined off six slide your needle to
the left hand or slide your stitch back to the left hand needle and you want to
repeat this across once you've repeated across the entire row you have one
stitch remaining you want to slide this stitch back to the left hand needle and
knit cast on three stitches and bind off everything to fasten off
so we'll fasten off that last ditch and you'll see we have a finished motif make
sure you watch the next video where I'm going to show you how I take these
finished motifs and join them to begin the bottom edge of the show I hope you
