In this video we're going to look at five Irish verbs, I'm going to explain to you what they mean
and give you some sample sentences that you could use these verbs in
let's start off with the Irish verb here which is Fill
Fill is to return
and a return ticket for example would be ticéad fillte
ticéad fillte, a return ticket
D'fhill sí abhaile, she returned home
fillfidh siad ar Éirinn an bhlian seo chugainn
they will return to Ireland next year
fillfidh siad ar Éirinn an bhlian seo chugainn
Our next verb is
Foilsigh
foilsigh is the Irish verb to publish, foilsigh
and book publishers is foilsitheoirí leabhar, book publishers
D'fhoilsigh sé é gan a ainm a chur leis - He published it anonymously
Our next verb is
the Irish verb Neartaigh which is to strengthen
now you could also use the verb Láidrigh as well, which also means to strengthen
but we're focusing on Neartaigh here
Neartaigh sé a chreideamh - it strengthened his belief or it strengthened his faith
Tá an ghaoth ag neartú - the wind is strengthening
Next we have the verb Ionsaigh which is to attack
a terrorist attack would be ionsaí sceimhlitheoireachta
D'ionsaigh an madra í - the dog attacked her
Our next verb then is the Irish verb Mill which is to destroy or to ruin or to spoil
mar shampla
Mhill an aimsir an lá orainn - the weather ruined our day
Another word for to ruin or destroy would be the Irish verb Scrios
Scriosfaidh tú do bhróga - you will ruin your shoes
so that's ruin or destroyed or spoil, you could use either
Scrios there or Mill
