How to Update Spektrum Receivers

hello fellow RC enthusiasts and the like I'm your host Tom Cogswell with Horizon
Hobby and Spektrum RC. welcome to my garage it is a modest setup but I find
it enjoyable I like to call it's my Tama Tory Imperium something like that
anyways give you a quick tutorial on how to use the new Spektrum
programmer this is a Windows 10 one 7 8 & 10 compatible program that you can use
to update the AR 6 3 6 this is the as3x receiver that you actually find in a lot
of Bind and fly aircraft. so one of the cool things you're gonna learn today is
that you can take your binder flying receivers and of your AR 636 like the
A's or the H's and update those for use in other aircraft so let's get to it
all right guys we're sitting in front of my computer and we are going to walk
through how to install the updater so first thing that you're gonna need
before you even consider doing this is of course a receiver that needs to be
updated and the programmer cable this is the USB transmitter and receiver
programmer cable right the SP ma 3065 which is this cable I've been holding in
my hand here it is the as3x programmer cable but it also works for transmitters
that have a programming port and receivers that have a bind programming
port so keep a lookout for receivers that have that because there may be a
update for it receivers that are currently that could use an update our
our telemetry receivers there has been an update for those same with the quad
racing receiver and like we're going to discuss here an important update for the
636 days like this guy well 6 3 6 but the A's as well so let's go through
where to find the programmer let's get to the computer alright so we
looked up the AR 6 3 6 on horizon happy calm this is one way to find the
programmer you can even go to the product page for the cable the
are a 3065 cable and find the same thing this is gonna be on should be on any of
these updatable receivers so we'll click on PC download it'll bring us to this
page let's roll down and we'll look for the
newest one yeah if you're not up to this point we're gonna be downloading 3.1 and
we'll hit that and it's gonna ask us to run or save it we can run it tap install
and if you don't already have the driver it's going to install the driver here I
already had it on my computer and the driver what I'm talking about is the
driver for the cable so make sure that it does that if this isn't the purpose
is the first time you're running this program if it isn't it's just going to
say ok we got it and you're done it is on our computer we can close this we no
longer need a internet explorer open and we will go to the spectrum programmer
which will be on our desktop another important thing to note is to plug in
your USB before you open the program if this is your first time if this is your
first time plug it in and away she should install
the driver normally you will see something down in the rut lower
right-hand corner saying driver has been installed successfully once it's
installed we'll open the spectrum programmer and if you feel you need to
resize it you can do so by the right and bottom edge so this is the spectrum
programmer right now it's going to say cable connected but no device here in
the top right hand corner so what we will first see here that's pretty new is
I am logged in as myself so you can log into your spectrum RC account or even
create an account straight from here so let's do that let's log out hopes out
login and there's my username or if you don't have an account you can hit create
an account you know for all your information and you will
get a confirmation email make sure and we've covered this in the past to go to
that confirmation email to activate your account if you haven't done that you
won't be able to login so let's pretend I've already done that and we'll hit
login there's my username yeah I'll put in my password and hit login
it's gonna ping our server and log me in as myself Tom so this is a cool function
because this is going to allow us to download and get updated things from our
server directly so we're going to plug in the programmer cable so we've got our
six three six eight that I pulled out of my night vision air and we've got the
end of the programming cable here right we're gonna plug it into the bind
program or make sure you have the signal which is usually the lightest colored
lead-in to the vine program port all right we're done here
back to the computer and one cool thing you can do instead of having to plug a
battery into your receiver to get it to communicate you can hit power cable and
it gives us this warning to make sure that you're not going to overcurrent
your camp your computer somehow so a word of warning don't have a battery
plugged into it so it's feeding power back to the computer don't have a bunch
of servos plugged into it that can cause overcurrent normally your computer will
just cut off the USB but it could damage it so be very careful this is really
just for programming a new receiver if you were going to be programming your
receiver that's gonna need power to servos or other extensions or or or
tools some you know lights are went on you make sure you have a battery for
that and don't use power cable check mark up here but we're going to because
we're not programming with any so let's plugged in right now we're just gonna do
a software update we are still logged in so if we hit choose check for update
things our servers and say oh there's your serial number what do you want to
give it the nickname is let's say register so this is pretty cool I like
how you can just click here it'll have a small box and just like the other one
you can expand it that way and you can choose the different versions of
receivers here and it'll give you a quick little change log first release of
firmware supporting save update so it is going to update the receiver ok the
device has have successfully been updated we're gonna hit OK and here's an
important part it's going to calibrate the receiver it's gonna give you a
moment to start it but essentially you just need to have it flat or
right down flat on our table here don't touch it and hits dart take it a little
bit to calibrate we are calibrated well that's great so it flows okay yeah
easy and enough food to do and you can do the same thing with power say for
other telemetry receivers it's actually quite simple the spectrum programmer or
Windows great tool so you guys have any of our newer receivers which you likely
do you can update them so check it to see if you have any updates or just
register using the spectrum programmer app on your Windows PC ok guys thank you
