and I think especially for the teachers.
It shows your qualifications as a teacher ...
and that you are capable of teaching scientific education.
Education is considered less important than research ...
so while education is extremely important ...
it played no part in a teacher's career.
That has now come about with mutual recognition ...
for teachers who are just starting out.
For us, BKO is a learning and working programme.
This means that we combine the teacher's work ...
with learning about that work.
What we do a lot in a BKO programme ...
especially at the beginning ...
is to let teachers learn from each other in groups.
We have a new BKO programme ...
which we have made very motivational:
our participants must really bring about change in their own education ...
innovate, and talk about this with fellow colleagues.
After ten years, it's a good to evaluate what we've been doing for ten years that is important for the teacher ...
we call it a competence profile ...
but we want to take a critical look at it again ...
by asking what will be needed from teachers of the future?
We have thought about our alumni policy ...
so after the BKO, teachers can follow flash modules...
, so they can refresh their skills in a short amount of time and try new things.
It is also a nice prelude to follow-up programs such as the SKO.
Where would we be without the BKO?
Well, I actually think ...
that ...
teachers would be much less visible than they are now and ...
on the other hand ...
I don't really want to answer that question ...
because we do have the BKO.
I think it is a useful tool ...
that allows us to focus on teacher quality ...
because that is not the first thing ...
that gets attention at a university.
I also think it makes an important contribution ...
to considering education as a craft, as a profession.
There is a lot going on already ...
teachers actually do a lot of self-professionalisation ...
by attending courses on how to create online course modules ...
or how to make teaching blended ...
those kind of concrete things ...
they are already looking for things like this ...
and we would like to show our appreciation for that.
The success of the BKO is, as far as I am concerned, a combination of two factors.
On the one hand, we have jointly stated with all the universities involved ...
that we will prioritise this
and on the other hand ...
every university has the freedom ...
to implement it as something that fits within their own educational vision.
It's important we give enough attention to the professionalisation of teachers ...
during their careers ...
as well as increase appreciation for teachers and their work.
Not only appreciation for those who do excellent research ...
but also more appreciation for those who give excellent education.
For the development of the BKO after today ...
I think in the first place ...
of permanent development, also after obtaining the BKO.
And secondly, in general, that universities ...
will find education to be just as important as research.
