A little bit, yeah.
Sara's been a patient of mine for many years
and we've been trying for a number of years now
to control her severe asthma.
And often patients complain to me they can't breathe,
they often feel like they're producing mucus
and they can't just clear that
and yet they're taking a lot of different medications.
The studies that just came out
in the New England Journal of Medicine
relate to a new drug
that has never really been studied before
in a large population of patients with asthma.
This drug is called Dupilumab
and Dupilumab has a very unique action
in that it blocks two different what we call cytokines,
which are chemicals that are active
in patients with severe asthma.
So in the Quest study, we found that
in patients that were treated with Dupilumab,
there is a about a 50% reduction in asthma attacks.
Some of these patients come back to me
after starting the medication and say
"Wow, Dr. Castro my life has changed so much!"
"You know, I'm able to do things like I never had before."
"I'm able to go outside and actually exercise."
And so, you know, this has really been a life changing
treatment for some of my patients with asthma.
They sound nice and clear.
Good. That's what I like to hear.
