Good day. Welcome to this week's edition of the superintendent's vlog. This is Ross
Renfrow, Superintendent for Johnston County Public Schools. I feel it's
appropriate this morning to address school safety. With the most recent
tragedy at Santa Fe High School, I just want to remind everybody that keeping
our students and staff safe during the day is our prime initiative. Parents have
to feel good about sending students to school. Parents and the community have to
feel good that we're doing everything we can to keep students safe for school, and
students have to feel good about being at school as well. We can't be successful
with academic endeavors if we don't feel safe at school. So just to recap of the
three phases and what we're doing here in the Johnston County public schools to
keep our staff and students safe. Phase 1- which is controlled access for the
schools. Went out to Archer Lodge this morning. John Ross had a dentist
appointment. Have to ring the doorbell camera to gain access into the building,
and so most of you have seen this, but every doorbell camera should be
installed for every school and central building by the end of May. Phase 2-
dealing with cameras exterior cameras. That should be in place by the end of
June, and then the card swipes and key fobs we're currently underway with that,
and that will be in place before the start of school next year. But we'll
remain vigilant in thinking about what we can do above and beyond this. We have
written the grant for 12 additional school resource officers. We are awaiting
information from the state, and there is much discussion in the General Assembly
that maybe we'll have school resource officers in every public school
statewide next year. So as we get more information about safety and security we
will be compelled to share it. Don't forget end of the school. Only 12 days left in
the school year, 13 days until graduation. EOGs and EOCs start this week, so we wish
all our students well. Follow your plan, and
